As a benefit and tribute to the late comic book writer/photographer Seth Kushner, a set of 13 Graphic NYC cards have been published to directly benefit Seth’s wife and son. Published by Hang Dai Editions through Christopher Irving’s The Drawn Word, the cards also feature creator signatures in a limited run.

Irving has decided to offer a limited number online at $15 per unsigned pack, and $25 for a pack with a single creator signature.

“I wanted a way to honor Seth’s work while also showcasing the friendships he cemented with creators during our Graphic NYCproject,” Irving says. “I actually started with the intention of 10 cards, but had more creators wanting to participate. I also worked with the printer to find a stock that best replicated that used in our book, Leaping Tall Buildings: The Origins of American Comics. It’s the most touching tribute I can think of for my old friend, and a great way to benefit his wife, Terra, and son, Jackson.

Tomorrow, September 1st, Abrams Books is publishing an anniversary edition of a fantasy classic: Goblins: The 10 1/2 Year Anniversary Edition. For the uninformed, goblins are maleficent creatures who cause all manner of havoc in the human realm. Now, thanks largely to Froud and Berk's continuing carelessness, the viscid and largely nonsensical NEW volume has been unleashed on an unsuspecting public. Among its pages are new letters of apologies, disclaimers, new goblin art and sadly, much more! They are two of the CW's most beloved shows, and now you have a chance to win a copy!

About The Vampire Diaries The Complete Sixth Season

The Vampire Diaries continues its sixth season with more delicious drama to sink your teeth into. In season five, after a passionate summer with Damon, Elena headed to Whitmore College with Caroline, not knowing Bonnie sacrificed her life for Jeremy’s. Meanwhile, Stefan and Caroline’s friendship deepened as they stood up to the Travelers, a nomadic witch tribe driven to strip Mystic Falls of magic and cast out its supernatural residents. In the shocking season finale, Damon, fearing he would lose his loved ones on the crumbling Other Side, made a huge sacrifice to bring them all back — with catastrophic and heartbreaking results. Season six follows the characters’ journey back to each other as they explore the duality of good versus evil inside themselves. Matt Davis reprises his role as Alaric Saltzman, recently returned from The Other Side. Plus, the season will make you misty-eyed as the departure of a major character will turn lives upside down and leave us asking what happened to Mystic Falls.

About The Originals The Complete Second Season

As Original vampire-werewolf hybrid Klaus Mikaelson returned to the vibrant, supernaturally charged city of New Orleans in season one, he was stunned to learn — along with his siblings Elijah and Rebekah — that Hayley, a werewolf, was pregnant with his child, and his vampire protégé, Marcel, whom the Original siblings had thought long dead, was ruling the French Quarter. Soon, a bloody war escalated between vampires and witches — the stakes raised by powerful teenage witch Davina and by Klaus’s bond with Cami, a student with a painful past — and a ruthless pack of wolves seized the opportunity to stage a violent coup. Now, in season two, a new status quo must be adjusted to, as the newly empowered werewolves control the city. Klaus struggles with weaknesses as Elijah desperately tries to save Hayley — now a hybrid — from a vicious spiral of self-destruction. Meanwhile, with the re-emergence of several Mikaelsons, “family is power” takes on new meaning.

I need to come clean about my scouting experience.

The worst thing that ever happened to me in Cub Scouts was having my mom as Den Mother. There's no merit badge in humiliation, but I'm pretty sure I earned it with each meeting.

Boy Scouts, in which I stopped cold-turkey at Tenderfoot status, was a more life-threatening experience.

I brought only one pair of socks on a Winter "survival" camping trip, which were soaked in icy-cold lake water after falling through thin ice.

Nothing in my scouting days compares to the ultra-horror in the new Belgian horror film Cub (Welp), though it wasn't without nostalgia.

Glenn Head's Comix Memoir CHICAGO On Sale This Week From Fantagraphics

A Portrait of the Cartoonist as a Young Virgin Living in Suburbia

Featuring Cameo Appearances by R. Crumb, Muhammad Ali and the Author’s Suicidal Thoughts

From Harvey and Eisner-nominated cartoonist and editor Glenn Head and acclaimed publisher Fantagraphics Books comes CHICAGO, a harrowing graphic novel about sex, art and the search for authenticity. Starkly confessional, Head’s memoir chronicles his transformation from a 19-year-old virgin who hates his family and lives at home to a successful Brooklyn-based cartoonist who’s raising his daughter as a single dad. The journey along the way? It’s complicated and messy, uncomfortable and unforgettable.

Glenn Head’s life is full of contradictions. He meets the girl of his dreams…. only to lose her when she runs away from their hometown. He’s a promising artist at the prestigious Cleveland Institute of Art… but chafes at his restraints and drops out. He gets his first big cartooning break when he’s hired to do a spot illustration for PLAYBOY MAGAZINE…. but he’s homeless, depressed and adrift. His days are increasingly spent dodging street hustlers, ducking the police, fighting starvation—surviving at any cost. In sharp contrast are a dramatic confrontation with Muhammad Ali on the Chicago streets and his introduction to Robert Crumb at a dinner party, two events which hint at a world bigger than the one he knows.

When Glenn bottoms out, he plays with his father’s .38 revolver. Is he suicidal? The book offers no easy answers. But Glenn spins the chamber and raises the handgun….just to see. Like Jim Carroll’s The Basketball Diaries, CHICAGO tells the story of a troubled young man who rejects a conventional life but does so with a frankness and surrealism all its own.

A student of Art Spiegelman at the School for Visual Art in the early ‘80s, Glenn has edited the acclaimed comix anthologies HOT WIRE and SNAKE EYES. His cartooning has appeared in R. Crumb’s WIERDO MAGAZINE and BAD NEWS and his comix include AVENUE D, GUTTERSNIPE COMIX and HEAD SHOTS. His comics and illustrations have appeared in a wide array of publications, including Advertising Age, Screw, Sports Illustrated and The Wall Street Journal. This week Fantagraphics Books will publish CHICAGO, Glenn Head’s first major original graphic novel and the first major standalone work of his career.

After the jump check out a sneak preview!

Double Feature Movie Show: WES CRAVEN

Last week, we lost one of the grandfathers of modern horror.
Wes Craven took us to places that most horror directors never wanted to go. After The Last House On The Left and The Hills Have Eyes, it seemed that horror could go anywhere and disturb everyone.
Then, with A Nightmare on Elm Street, he created Freddy Kruger. Freddy wasn’t the first horror baddie to become an icon, but he was the first to TRULY embrace it.

I thought that I would pay tribute to the man by pairing up two of his films that visit the same phenomenon: The true legacy of horror.
