A bunch of hipster activists get killed, and then…

Susan Golden (Charisma Carpenter) is a very successful crime novelist recovering from a breakdown and struggling with her latest book.  Her new husband, David (Paul Sculfor), whisks her off to an isolated manor house to finish both her recovery and her book.

When Susan starts seeing things, David thinks she’s relapsing, but Susan is convinced that spirits are reaching out to her.

Verdict
All mouth and no trousers.

Check out what I checked out over the past two weeks.

Whether the comics are inspiring or disappointing, I read them all.

Welcome to The Pull List.

And, as always...Spoilers ahead!

I Love Trouble #1 (Pick of the Week)
Writer: Kel Symons
Art: Mark Robinson
Colors: Paul Little
Publisher: Image Comics
Price: $ 2.99

Felicia Castillo is a grifter on the run from the mob.

She hops on a flight heading to the Midwest until something goes wrong mid flight and the plane crashes. Of course, right before the crash, she discovers she has superpowers and survives.

Felicia is a character that has made her way in the world by lying, cheating and stealing. This is normally a character you would have zero sympathy for.

Kel Symons makes things interesting as Felicia takes her unique abilities for granted until the very mob she was running from makes her an offer she can’t refuse.

The art resembled Felicia’s brashness and brought something different to the table. It was fun to look at and I wouldn't mind seeing more comic books done in this fashion.

Reading this on a tablet really makes the art stand out and gives you more appreciation for Mark Robinson’s work as the paper version doesn't do it justice. The word balloons are curvy and yellow which adds to the gritty nature of the comic.

This book has a little something for everybody and is a strong debut issue from Image Comics.

Grade: A-

I’m not going to lie.

It’s tough growing up with an older sibling that’s got it all together, especially when you feel like a total soup sandwich half the time.

My sister, Joanne, is eight years my elder and pretty much everything my parents could have wanted.

And then there’s me, the hellspawn with the rebellious streak and bipolar adventures.

They totally should have quit while they were ahead.

Actual baby picture from my youth.

Sibling rivalries are a common theme in fiction and while my sister and I get along just fine, our differences were often pointed out while growing up.

Still, at least our relationship didn’t go anything like Scott and Alex Summers, better known as Cyclops and Havok of the X-Men.

Score! The Best of 2012 Movie Music

I've always been a big fan of movie scores, and for a great while collected any from my favorite artists like John Williams and Danny Elfman.

But even some of the biggest names in movie music composition have dwindled into variations on their themes.  And not it a good way.

Just as a filmmaker can be accused of a lack-luster retread of their previous work, a film's composer can really phone it in sometimes due to any number of factors.

I've noticed though that this year in cinema has held some really exciting new music.  Some better than the movies they accompanied even.

Here's my playlist, courtesy of Spotify, as well as some commentary on the tracks below...

Letters To Hollywood: My Cinematic 2013 Wish List

Dear Hollywood,

It's too early for a Films of the Year list, and too obvious to do a Christmas one (it's all burnt in our brains by now anyhow. Gremlins, Muppets Christmas Carol, Home Alone, etc. – yawn, rinse, repeat), so instead I'm making a "Cinematic Hopes and Dreams for 2013 List," including clichés I hope never to see again.

1.  I hope to see more films where men and women in a romantic situation are of same age.

If the woman is younger then the man then I hope attention is drawn to it, instead of it being accepted as the norm in Hollywood.

Or if it is vice versa and the man is younger then the women, then attention is not drawn to the age difference or the film is not about a woman rediscovering her sexuality after a messy divorce.

2.   I wish to see more romantic comedies and love stories with balls.

Silver Linings Playbook started out as an interesting exploration into living with bi-polar disorder, but quickly descended into “you will be fine with the love of a good or similarly mixed up woman.” I enjoyed the film and the performances, yes but it was not the gritty drama I hoped it would be.

It needed to grow a pair and lean into the darkness.

The Perks of Being a Wallflower was a far more successful portrait of depression, and Rust and Bone for love against the odds.

3.  Further note on that – I wish to see a film where someone’s problems are not totally fixed by the love of a good woman.

How about sort of fixed, but they had some other stuff going on which helped with their emotional or spiritual journey, too.

Or how about they work things out alone, and that’s okay.

I enjoyed parts of Lola Versus, not only because Greta Gerwig is incredibly watchable, but because I admired the bravery of an ending where she decided to try and strike out on her own for a while.

Mitsubishi Unveils All-New 2014 Outlander and 2013 Outlander Sport Limited Edition at the 2012 Los Angeles Auto Show

Let me be completely honest.  I haven't driven on any sort of regular basis since 1989.

Sure, it has it's limitations, and even though I swore that I was holding out for a Batmobile, this Mitsubishi Outlander is pretty damned impressive.  Much more Jack Bauer than Bruce Wayne, but very cool nevertheless.

Check out the specs of this baby after the jump.  I need to finish my application to CTU.
