Iron Man 3 is now starting to go into development and Ben Kingsley looks like he might just be the villain for the third film in the comic book movie franchise.
According to Variety, Kingsley is in the final negotiations with Marvel Studios and Disney to be a bad guy. If you thought he was going to be The Mandarin, you might want to guess again because he won't be portraying the classic villain to Tony Stark's hero.
Iron Man 3 is said to be based on the comic book series Extremis from 2005. It tells the story of a virus that is spreading through the use of nanobots. The origin story for the movie series is also based on the same series of comic books. Kingsley would play a character that has some part in spreading the virus.
While the Mandarin was thought to be a possible villain for the third movie, and Jon Favreau has said that he wanted to have the character, the franchise has moved to a new director. Shane Black will be taking on the next film with a script he co-wrote with Drew Pearce.
Shooting is expected to start in May. Robert Downey Jr. will return, of course, along with Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, and Scarlett Johansson. Disney/Marvel has the threequel set for release on May Third.
