In an email to Lit Reactor writer Keith Rawson, Sallis replied to a congratulatory email with a short and simple note "Guess you heard that Driven will be out in April." If it's a hit like the first, maybe Nicolas Refn and Ryan Gosling will return to make the film.
While it's been known that Sallis was working on a sequel, a release date or any information about the book has been kept secret. Until now, publisher Poisoned Pen Press gave the very brief synopsis for the novel which is : "Six years later - Phoenix. Out of nowhere someone wants Driver dead. Who? Why? Big mistake..."
Drive started as just a slight manuscript at small time published Poisoned Pen Press with no contract involved. Now it's the publishers claim to fame.
Owners Barbara Peters and Robert Rosenwald clearly note that "After the extraordinary success of Drive and with no contractual obligation to Poisoned Pen Press, Vicky and Jim easily could have sold Driven to virtually any mainstream publishing house for significant money." According to them it was Sallis' integrity that kept him from going anywhere else.
Here's the full rough draft for the cover, keep in mind this is not the final work.
