I've been waiting for Joe Carnahan (Smokin' Aces, The A-Team) to follow up his directorial debut Narc with another film on par with Narc's greatness... sadly he hasn't been able to do it yet.
Do I think Carnahan's most recent directorial effort The Grey is going to be on par with Narc? No, but from the newest trailer released today, it looks like it's going to be an awesome man vs. wilderness action film.
The Grey stars Liam Nesson as a man who works security for a crew of pipeline workers who try to survive the wilderness and a pack of wolves after a plane crash strands them in the middle of nowhere.
Solid man vs. wild films are far and few between, I believe the last one I enjoyed was David Mamet's The Edge back in 1997... I'm really hoping Carnahan pulls this one off.
The films also stars Dermot Mulroney (J. Edgar, Abduction, The Zodiac), James Dale Badge (Shame, AMC's Rubicon, HBO's The Pacific, The Departed), Frank Grillo (Warrior, My Soul To Take, Edge of Darkness), Joe Anderson (The Crazies, Amelia, The Ruins), and Dallas Roberts (AMC's Rubicon, 3:10 to Yuma, Flicka).
The Grey will open in theaters on January 27, 2012.
