Writer-director Jim Sheridan is looking to update his 1992 cult Irish fantasy film, Into The West.
According to Screen Daily, the writer is also directing the new film and Tim Palmer, a producer from the original, is set to return. Gabriel Byrne, Ellen Barkin, Brendan Gleeson and David Kelly who starred in the original aren't expected to return.
The new film will use themes from the original to create a new story in a new US setting.
"The original follows two young boys who escape the poverty of their Dublin council estate on adventure ‘into the west’ to find a mystical horse recently stolen from them."
Recently the film was given a grant from the Irish Film Board for €50,000. That is the highest amount that the board gives out for funding.
