Renner recently discussed his hesitation in accepting the lead in THE BOURNE LEGACY, but now he's moved on to discussing the films scope and relation to Matt Damon's BOURNE Trilogy.
Renner told Empire:
"My character is called Aaron Cross, but he ends up having a bunch of different names. For fans of the franchise, [THE BOURNE LEGACY] has that same ticking clock, but it's a new programme and new characters."
Empire also asked if Treadstone is still involved, to which Renner replied:
"Yeah, it's that same deal, it's just a new set of agents with a different leash. It's the same tempo and pace but more expansive and bigger. The differences are pretty vast but you'll know it's a BOURNE movie."As a huge fan of action franchises, I've never particularly cared for the BOURNE films, though I have seen all 3. Renner is one of a handful of action stars (including Tom Hardy and Michael Fassbender) who I believe could actually destroy an a villain in real life, so I'm down for LEGACY.
The film also stars Rachel Weisz (THE MUMMY, THE BROTHERS BLOOM), Edward Norton (FIGHT CLUB, INCREDIBLE HULK), Oscar Isaac (DRIVE), Joan Allen (BOURNE ULTIMATUM & SUPREMACY), Albert Finney (BOURNE ULTIMATUM), Stacy Keach (AMERICAN HISTORY X), and Scott Glenn (ULTIMATUM). Its is also known to be a spin-off with a parallel storyline to the original three BOURNE movies.
Besides GHOST PROTOCOL and THE AVENGERS, Renner will also star in HANSEL AND GRETEL: WITCH HUNTERS next year.
LEGACY will be out August 17th, 2012.
