Warner Bros has hired Alfred Gough and Miles Millar to pen their long-in-development ROBOTECH live-action feature film, per THR.

The pair previously worked together on SMALLVILLE, I AM NUMBER FOUR, SHANGHAI NOON, and the story for SPIDER-MAN 2.

ROBOTECH was an 80s cartoon series taking place at a time when Earth has developed giant robots using technology from a crashed alien spacecraft. The forces of Earth must use this newly found tech to fight off an impending alien invasion.

Akiva Goldsman is producing with Tobey Maquire, which leads me to the personal part of this story. I interned for Akiva's WEED ROAD banner 3-4 years ago, and while I was covering Goldsman's desk I answered a call from Tobey Maguire (about ROBOTECH) aka Spider-Man aka Seabiscuit himself! Such a movie-star interaction is among my favorite from my time spent in Los Angeles.  (My other two favs were standing feet from Harrison Ford when I worked on THE TONIGHT SHOW, and seeing Michael C. Hall aka Dexter and Ben Schwartz aka Jean Ralphio hanging out together at Arclight Cinemas Hollywood, but I digress...)

Lawerence Kasdan wrote the previous draft of ROBOTECH. Which begs to question, why need the rewrite? After all, Kasdan did write two little classics called RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK and THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK. Hard to top that much HWood cred.
