Timur Bekmambetov may be waiting for his latest film Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter to come out, but that doesn't mean he isn't looking forward to working on the sequel to Wanted.
The action film based on the comic books of the same name was fairly successful grossing over $340 million worldwide. The sequel is set to have the original writers and part of cast from the first film. Most of the cast won't be coming back, if you've seen the film you know why. Killing off a large part of the cast made a sequel difficult, and that could be why the project has been progressing slowly.
The film is still moving forward though, and talking to Bekmambetov, Playlist found out that after stopping work on the film around three years ago the director just came up with an idea for the story just a few weeks ago. Apparently the story that he pitched was popular with the other filmmakers, and is on track now to get put into production. Bekmambetov said "Right now the writer is working on the script, and it will be shocking."
The new film is planned to be a continuation of the original story with James McAvoy's character coming back but this time is may have the "same character, same mythology, but it's got a great twist."
