MARK WAHLBERG Has Some Projects He Wants To Do

Mark Wahlberg is a busy many, producing and starring in multiple movies, now he has two new projects that he is looking at.

The upcoming years could see Walberg playing a SEAL and an art thief. Currently looking at a remake of a Norwegian action thriller, the actor has only really said that he wants to do the project, but nothing is signed yet. It's also unknown if he wants to produce, star or do both in the film. The other project is also the other side of the law and is based on a book by a former Navy SEAL. He is currently in talks with director Peter Berg.

According to Deadline, Wahlberg is looking to star in Lone Survivor along with Taylor Kitsch and Ben Foster. The three would play Navy SEALs in the adaptation of Marcus Luttrell's novel of the same name. Battleship director Peter Berg is in talks right now with the actors about the project.

The story is about Luttrell and the rest of his SEAL team as they fight to stay alive after they are ambushed by Taliban forces. The 2005 covert mission in the Hindu Kush mountain region had the objective of killing a terrorist leader. Wahlberg would be have the role of Luttrell.

Berg wrote the script for Lone Survivor after he was embedded with a SEAL team in Iraq for a month. While he wanted to do the project two years ago after his time with the SEALs, the studio made him a deal which included first making Battleship. The director has had experience with filming in the Middle East before with his drama The Kingdom.

“Bin Laden’s death has cleared the way for this, a movie that will be an unapologetically patriotic film that honors and pays homage to an incredible group of badass guys who do this,” Berg said May. “The film will be a bit like Black Hawk Down, but it will focus on the quartet, which is fewer guys than that film.

“The mission was similar to the assassination mission that got bin Laden, but things got complicated when they ran into three kids and an old man,” Berg said. “Under the rules of engagement, they could have killed them, but they decided to let them go and take their chances, even though they knew these people would likely talk.”

After running into those problems the team was caught under fire by nearly 250 Al-Qauda soldiers, needless to say the mission was aborted. Things went from bad to worse when the rescue helicopter was blown up. Luttrell was the only survivor of the attack which killed 15 Navy SEALS. The team’s leader, Mike Murphy, was posthumously awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor.

The Shortlist reports that Mark Wahlberg is also looking at doing another remake, this time it's one from Norway. The actor is not new to remakes, his most recent movie Contraband was an Icelandic action thriller from 2008. Before that he had a hit with The Italian Job, and some misses before that with The Truth about Charlie, and Planet of the Apes.

Now Marky-Mark is looking at redoing the Norwegian thriller Headhunters, which is based on the novel by Jo Nesbo. The film follows an art thief on the run and Wahlberg even describes the movie as "awesome."

"I saw a film recently called Headhunters," he said. "It's a Norwegian film and it's one of the best movies I've seen in a long time."

"I met with the director and pleaded with the studio that has the rights so we'll see if we get anywhere with that."

Casting Call : Movies : RUSSELL CROWE, MIKE TYSON, OLDBOY, PAIN & GAIN

Just a few little pieces of movie casting news for you today.

In this edition Russell Crowe is Noah, yes the one with the Ark. Mike Tyson still has a Hangover, Michael Bay has cast a supermodel, and the third Olsen sister might just be in Oldboy. Check out all the news right after the break.

According to Variety, Russell Crowe is in the negotiations to play the title character in the Biblical epic Noah. Darren Aronofsky is set to direct the project and has been looking at Crowe for the part for a while. Shooting on the project could start as soon as July with Paramount and New Regency backing the project. Aronofsky and Ari Handel wrote the script together and then John Logan did a rewrite. Aronofsky would also be producing with his Protozoa Pictures partner Scott Franklin and Mary Parent. In this version of the tale, Noah is said to be "a man who loves Earth and all of its animal inhabitants but has become disillusioned with the way humans have treated their planet."

The third film in the Hangover franchise will have Mike Tyson once more. In an interview with Dan Patrick, Tyson said that he is set to have a role in The Hangover, Part 3 which is scheduled to start filming in summer and fall this year in LA. He will be playing himself again, but it's unknown how big a role he will have. In the second film, all he did was sing. His part in the first film was slightly larger. The third film is planned for a release on Memorial Day weekend in 2013.

Michael Bay's project Pain and Gain is coming along nicely, with Israeli supermodel Barl Paly being the latest to join the cast according to Variety. In the bodybuilder crime thriller, Paly is in the final negotiations for the role of Sabina Petrescu. The character is described as "an illegal immigrant and former beauty queen who dreams of becoming the next Marilyn Monroe. Tony Shalhoub has also been cast as Marc Schiller who is the target of the kidnapping and murder that is based on a true story.

Twitch is reporting that Elizabeth Olsen has been offered the role of the female lead in Oldboy. While Twitch's history for casting scoops on Spike Lee's project have all fallen through, this is just the latest news. In the past, Rooney Mara and Mia Wasikowska were said to have been offered the role of Marie. Right now, Josh Brolin is the only confirmed casting. The villain has yet to be cast, though names like Christian Bale, Colin Firth, and Clive Owen have all been mentioned at some point. Anthony Mackie, Dwayne Johnson, Ed Harris and Rob Corddry are also set to co-star in the film.

Smallville: Random, Awesome and WTF?! - S3E22: Covenant

Poisoned brandy. Home explosions. Chaos.

Yup, it’s season finale time once again as Clark is contacted by someone claiming to be from Krypton and Lionel begins to extract revenge on everyone who put him in prison.

Only Lana can screw up such awesomeness…

The Random:
1. Less than 40 seconds in and we have our first vehicle crash, a new Smallville record that gets extra points for being done by an insanely hot naked girl.

2. Kara can fly and takes Clark on a little flight of his own to show him the full extent of their powers, but it’s too bad he won’t do it for another seven seasons…

3. Well, we learn what happens to eavesdroppers on Krypton now—they get vaporized. Harsh crowd. Lesson learned. Mind your damn business.

Hot chick in a field waiting for me? It’s like Smallville is in my mind.

The Awesome:
1. It’s often the subtle things that work best, and Lex beginning to wear the familiar purple he’ll become associated with more and more as he visits Lionel in jail is great foreshadowing.

2. Lionel turns Clark against Lex by tipping him off to Lex’s Shrine O’ Clark serial killer room in the Mansion. Well played.

3. Lionel cements his place in badass history in the best finale cliffhanger yet, orchestrating the assassination attempts of both Lex and Chloe all while getting a haircut in prison against the backdrop of classical opera. That’s just how he rolls.

Killing a bunch of people always makes me feel
like getting a little taken off the top, too…
The WTF?!:
1. Wow, Lana’s asking Clark to drive her to the airport so she can leave Smallville for Paris. That’s ballsy. “Yeah, I know I broke your heart and you’ve almost been killed over my idiocy like 100 times, but can you, like, give me a ride so I can leave you? Thanks.” Funnily enough, he forgets to drive her. Ha!

2. Did Lex really think that his Shrine O’ Clark serial killer room would go over well when Clark discovered it? Maybe make him fall more in love? Of course it gets worse when Clark sees him hanging out with Lana at the airport.

3. Once again a high school girl’s connections are able to uncover the truth and identity of fingerprints as Chloe gets to the truth behind Kara. We know she’s not sleeping with anyone, so what exactly is she doing to maintain all these high level contacts?

Crazy or not, I’d follow her into the strange glowing wall.
Just sayin’.

In addition to Cranston, the clip also features George Clooney, Martin Scorsese, and a whole lot of other celebrities. Watch the video right after the break.

PEANUTS & CHARLIE BROWN GO KABOOM!

A new ongoing comic introduces the next generation to a strip synonymous with growing up with growing pains.

With the success of Happiness is a Warm Blanket, Charlie Brown, Kaboom! Studios releases the first original Peanuts stories since Charles Schulz's death in 2000.

Peanuts #2 from Kaboom!
The monthly series reprints Sparky's Sunday strips in full color, but also invites new creative teams to the mound.

Kaboom! is the kids imprint of independent publisher Boom! Studios (Stan Lee's Soldier Zero, Irredeemable, Planet of the Apes). The Kaboom! re-branding in 2011 made way for the publisher to expand into the kid-friendly world of Adventure Time, Darkwing Duck and the upcoming Garfield monthly. Many thought the smaller studio would suffer from Disney buying Marvel in 2009, but that's clearly not the case. Looks like The Mouse has room for license relationships with more than one comic book company.

Those wary of fictional childhood friends being sullied by the creative input of overzealous visionaries (see Transformers, G.I. Joe, Star Wars I-III) need not fear that the voice of Mr. Schulz is missing.
Charles M. Schulz Creative Associates produces the book alongside talent such as Vicki and Bob Scott (Pixar), Shane Houghton (Reed Gunther) and Matt Whitlock.
Each issue starts with an original eight page story, a challenge for the new team to expand and break out the strip into a longer format. Flying Ace Snoopy is still keeping an eye out for pal Woodstock. Charlie Brown still has a crush on The Little Red Haired Girl. Poor Chuck is taunted by Lucy and another girl as he shoves a glittery mess of a Valentine into the mailbox in the February issue. Linus and I are still clutching our light blue blankets. Everything here is just right, except for Lucy Van Pelt's throwing arm. Boy, I sure wish she would show up for baseball practice, Charlie Brown!

Follow @Snoopy on Twitter for your daily dose of good grief, but this book is an awesome reason to go to your local comic shop.

THR reports that Neil Cross, the creator of the BBC series Luther starring Idris Elba, has been hired to adapt The Day Of The Triffids for Sam Raimi's Ghost House banner.

The film will be based on the 1951 sci-fi horror novel by John Wyndam, set in the aftermath of a comet shower that blinds most of the world's population. Those who can still see must battle alien plants called Triffids, who do not come in peace.

The novel was already adapted into a film in 1962, but it's not like the "remake" is a new or bold idea anymore...

Cross also recently wrote the Guillermo del Toro produced horror film Mama and did a polish on del Toro's Pacific Rim, which also stars Elba.

Trailers Galore : BERNIE, NOOBZ, TOUCHBACK, PIRANHA 3DD, NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH

Today we have some good looking movies and one ridiculous one.

In our collection of trailers today, Jack Black is a killer with a mustache, Ben Stiller and Jonah Hill find a plot to destroy the world, Jason Mewes is among the Noobz, there's something about football, and the prehistoric fishes are back in Pirahna 3DD. Watch all the trailers right after the break.

Jack Black stars in Bernie as the nicest and most cleancut guy in the town. He also happens to be a killer. In the dark comedy, Black plays a man who stars a relationship with an elderly millionaire widow only to end up killing her. Directer by Richard Linklater, the story is based on a true 1996 murder. Shirley MacLaine plays the widow, and Matthew McConaughey has the role of the district attorney who is investigating. The movie will play at SXSW and then have a limited run in theaters starting April 27th.

Here is the trailer for Neighborhood Watch starring Ben Stiller, Jonah Hill, Vince Vaughn, Rosemarie DeWitt, Richard Ayoade, Will Forte and Billy Crudup. Akiva Schaffer directed the sci-fi comedy that follows the neighborhood watch crew that is actually just a cover for the guys to hang out. The action starts when the crew finds a plot to destroy the world. Neighborhood Watch opens in theaters on July 27.

The upcoming comedy Noobz is a film about a clan of gamers comprised of three older gamers and a teen who enter a Gears of War Championship in LA, their troubles really start during the road trip. Directed by Blake Freeman, the film stars Jason Mewes, Moises Arias, Jon Gries, Richard Speight Jr., Mindy Sterling and Carly Craig. The movie is set to release this summer.

Touchback is a football drama starring Kurt Russell, Brian Presley, Melanie Lynskey, Marc Blucas, Christine Lahti, Drew Powell, Sarah Wright, Sianoa Smit-McPhee and Kevin Covais.
In the film, former high school football star turned farmer and family man, Scott Murphy (Presley) finds himself with a unique opportunity to revisit his glory days during the Ohio State championship game where he permanently injured his knee in a game-winning play. Given a second shot at his destiny, Scott seeks counsel from Coach Hand (Kurt Russell), Scott's longtime mentor on and off the field, to help him decide whether to let his fate unfold, or follow a path that will change his future.

Piranha 3DD has all the things you love from the first film. Plus this one has shotguns legs and Christopher Lloyd. The terrible fishes return this time and make it into the sewer pipes. They get to the trashy water park, and all hell breaks loose. Piranha 3DD doesn't have a release date yet.

The show is created in stereoscopic 3D and is executive produced by Avi Arad (Spider-Man) and Rick Ungar (X-Men Evolution). The team plans to produce 26 episodes which will premiere in fall 2013.

A Top Gun sequel really is being made. The project now has writer Peter Craig signed on.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Craig has been hired by Paramount to work on the film which is being produced by Jerry Bruckheimer Films and Skydance Productions. The sequel will likely come out soon after the original is rereleased in 3D.

Tony Scott directed the original film in 1986 and it was Tom Cruise's biggest hit until 1996 when Mission: Impossible came out. Cruise has said in the past that he's wanted to work on a sequel to the pop-culture film icon.

Hiring Craig is a big move for the studio and could mean that they are really going to make this movie happen. Craig's biggest work, The Town starred Ben Affleck and made around $154 million worldwide. His latest work was adapting Horse Soldiers, a nonfiction book about soldiers on horseback that fought the Taliban after 9/11.

Radius-TWC In Talks To Acquire ONLY GOD FORGIVES From The Director And Star Of DRIVE

$

Deadline reports that Radius-TWC, a new distribution company started by The Weinstein Company, Tom Quinn, and Jason Janego, is in negotiations for the US distribution rights to Ryan Gosling and Nicolas Winding Refn's followup to Drive (hands down, the best movie of 2011).

This is Radius-TWC's 2nd deal with director Refn, as they also acquired the rights to remake his first film, Pusher.

Film District, who distributed Drive, nearly acquired Only God Forgives but were unable to close a deal as they could not see eye-to-eye with the filmmakers (even though said filmmakes brought us Drive. Drive for christsakes!)

The film is a good fit for Radius, as it is a hard R drama with "way more explosive violence than Drive." And Drive was pretty damn violent.

Deadline's synopsis for the film is as follows:

Gosling plays the son of a Florida-based crime syndicate boss (Kristen Scott Thomas), who is plying the drug trade in Thailand with his brother. When his addicted sibling gets involved in a murder and gets tangled up with a cop who calls himself the Angel of Vengeance, Gosling’s character, who is proficient in mixed martial arts, is compelled to seek revenge on behalf of his mother. There is swordplay, and a lot of slicing and dicing.

It's Drive with swordplay? Sold!

THE ARKHAM FILM SOCIETY AND MALACHI’S CAFÉ PRESENT A RARE PUBLIC SCREENING OF KINJI FUKASAKU’S BATTLE ROYALE

On Saturday March 10th The Arkham Film Society will be hosting a very rare public screening of Kinji Fukusaku’s 2000 film Battle Royale. The screening will be held at 7:00 pm at The Granoff Center For The Arts located at 154 Angell Street, Providence, Rhode Island and will cost $6.00 per person.

Battle Royale is a modern controversial classic concerning a ninth grade class sent to an island to fight to the death due to a Government policy entitled “The Battle Royale ACT” meant to restore order and respect to society through fear. Because of its counter culture and ant-war themes the film has become a huge underground hit even though it has never been distributed in the United States, that is until now. Rhode Island film fans will be among the few who get a chance to witness on the big screen what the Japanese Government has referred to as “the most dangerous movie ever made.”

The Arkham Film Society are a Providence based group of film fans trying to spread our love of strange films of all eras, we have worked hard to bring cult horror films to local theaters in single screenings and through our work with local film festivals for almost ten years. Our preferred method is to screen classic cult films in their originally intended form, on 35mm film prints, a presentation format being used by fewer and fewer venues every year, although in select cases we will show a film digitally if prints are too rare. After years of hosting successful screenings of horror classics such as The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and The Evil Dead we at The Arkham Film Society are trying to venture into a regular series of screenings, and hope to continue to expand our screenings to include cult films of all genres. For more information, contact The Arkham Film Society at arkhamscreenings@gmail.com.
And we're giving away three pairs of tickets!

To enter, please send an email with the subject header "BATTLE ROYALE" to geekcontest @ gmail dot com and answer the following question:

Battle Royale is based on a 1999 novel written by this author?

Please include your name and address (Forces of Geek is not responsible for travel and/or expenses. The contest includes tickets only)

Only one entry per person. You must be 18 years old to enter. Winner will be chosen at random. Contest ends at 11:59 PM EST on March 7th, 2012.

Simon Pegg is switching franchises for a bit in order to play the bounty hunter Dengar in an upcoming episode of the animated Star Wars: The Clone Wars.

EW reports that the Star Trek actor will be voicing the cybernetically enhanced bounty hunter who was summoned by Darth Vader to track down the Millenium Falcon. In the episode "Bounty" we see the character at an earlier point when he teams up with Boba Fett.

In the episode called "Bounty", Dengar teams up with other bounty hunters Bossk and Boba Fett and new guy Asajj Ventress. His mission this time is to protect a shipment that is being sent "through the interior of a planet via hover rail."

When talking about his new role, Pegg said "It was a total honor to play this mysterious, hard man from my favorite Star Wars movie, The Empire Strikes Back."

As he talks about the character he says “Dengar is one of the elite.” He goes on to say, “If you’re on Darth Vader’s bounty-hunter speed dial, you are the best in the galaxy.”

Smallville: Random, Awesome and WTF?! - S4E1: Crusade

In the aftermath of last season’s finale, Lionel is still in prison while Chloe is presumed dead, Clark’s still missing, Papa Kent is in a coma, Lex is trying to recover from the attempt on his life, and Lana is a moron on an international level.

So what’s next?

Lois. Lois Lane. Oh, yes.

The Random:
1. So who gets welcomed to Smallville by nearly wrecking her car and finding a naked guy in the corn? Lois Lane does, that’s who.

2. It’s unsettling seeing Jensen Ackles so lovesick considering what I know about how badass he’ll go onto be on Supernatural.

3. As if standard green Kryptonite wasn’t troublesome enough, in addition to the red version, we’re now getting a black type as well. Connect them all and form Captain Planet.

As far as first dates go, honestly, I’ve had worse.

The Awesome:
1. It’s still early in the mythos, but Lois being introduced adds a much needed shot in the arm by having her not be an imbecile like Lana.

2. The Kal iteration of Clark allows him to fly under his own power, Matrix style, prompting a midair theft of a Kryptonian artifact from Lex’s private jet.

3. She’s not the looker she once was, but it’s great to see the movie version of Lois Lane, Margot Kidder, return to the fold as a confidant to Dr. Swann and it gives us an episode where the movie and TV versions of both Lana and Lois get screen time.

Apparently, he can only fly if he’s a complete dick.

The WTF?!:
1. Lois drops Clark off at the hospital after finding him naked in a field and thinking he was hit by lightning and the hospital attendants in the ER show about as much concern and urgency as they would if the vending machine was out of Diet Coke.

2. Lana does some brass rubbing in a church in France and finds an engraving of a medieval woman that looks suspiciously like her, necklace and all, and touching a symbol on her shield results in a flash of light and mini explosion that no one in the church sees or hears. Then again, they’re French, so maybe they just gave up on those senses…

3. Lionel’s prison allows visitors at all hours without ID verification, a wide open space away from other prisoners, and I’d imagine 5 star cuisine. Must be nice. He must have gotten the Hollywood Celebrity Suite at the penitentiary.

Don’t worry, Lana. Kryptonian trampstamps are in this season.

THE KIDS ARE ALL FIGHT
Sidekicks get their turn in Danger Club from Image Comics

What if superheroes were real? And what if one day they all disappeared? In DANGER CLUB, a new Image Comics series by Landry Walker and Eric Jones, the fate of the world is in the hands of the allies that the heroes left behind — their teenage sidekicks. It's up to the this rag-tag and fragmented group to battle the immense cosmic evil that threatens the world. But the fight could be over before it even starts if the sidekicks' struggle for dominance destroys them from the inside.

"Eric and I wanted to take they typical assortment of sidekicks and strip them of their authority figures," explained Walker. "These are the most powerful beings on the planet, and the oldest is around sixteen. You take any group of teenagers and put them in a positions of absolute power... there will be some serious consequences. Some will seek to recreate the familiar hierarchy or attempt to establish their dominance while some will some will rise to the occasion."

Walker and Jones are no strangers to superheroes. However, the creative team behind Supergirl: Cosmic Adventures in the 8th Grade and Batman: The Brave and the Bold, still feel like they've undertaken something new.

"The flexibility of working within our own superhero universe has been a rewarding experience," said Walker. "It's a very different animal — independent creation versus working within corporate-owned playgrounds — and it's allowing Eric and I to show sides of our work that we really haven't been given an opportunity to expose while working under a corporate umbrella. We've kind of gotten a label as 'all-ages' creators. That's not all we are. Fortunately, Image has given us an opportunity to show our range and diversity."

DANGER CLUB #1 will be in stores and digital platforms on April 4 and is available for preorder in the February issue of Previews (FEB120420). A three-page preview appears in INVINCIBLE #89, in stores on February 29.
