Do you remember the show The Night Stalker? No? Well Disney is remaking it with Johnny Depp and now Edgar Wright will direct.
According to Deadline, Edgar Wright has been hired by Disney to helm the remake of The Night Stalker. The title from an ABC telepic and series is in development to star Johnny Depp as a tabloid reporter. The project still doesn't have a writer though.
In the new series that would star Depp as Carl Kolchak, a tabloid reporter that covers crime. In the original show from the 70s, he would always end up getting into cases that had some sort of supernatural element. Whether it was zombies, vampires, werewolves, or aliens, no one listened to him and his stories never ran.
Wright is best known as the director of Shaun of the Dead and Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World. When the project gets a writer he will be overseeing and developing the project with Depp and producer Christi Dembrowski. David Kennedy will be an executive producer on the film.
Depp and Disney will next work together in The Lone Ranger, he is also working on another project with Dembrowski about the Midnight Ride of Paul Revere. Wright is also attached to direct Ant-Man for Disney and Marvel Studios.
