Does anyone even care about another Men In Black film?
MIB3 will be Will Smith's return to the screen after a four year break, but the film has had a ton of production problems. The film was greenlit with only one act of the story complete to take advantage of NYC tax breaks, Smith wasn't happy with the script, so Devid Koepp (War of the worlds, Spider-Man, Stir of Echos, Premium Rush) and Jeff Nathason (Tower Heist, Rush Hour 3, The Terminal, Catch Me If You Can) were brought in to do re-writes on it during an extended production hiatus, the budget went up to $215 million, and Alec Baldwin was forced to leave the film after shooting didn't restart when it was supposed to.
Sony has released a new trailer for the third film in the series and it's all sorts of blah. It sets up the basic premise of the film which revolves around Agent K (Tommy Lee Jones) having been erased from history, killed back in 1969. Agent J (Will smith) has to travel back in time to team up with the younger Agent K (Josh Brolin) to save him... and the universe. The jokes don't really land and the CGI looks pretty bad. The one redeeming quality of the trailer is Josh Brolin... but will he be enough?
The film also stars Alice Eve (She's Out Of My League, the upcoming The Raven) Emma Thompson (Pirate Radio, Last Chance Harvey, An Education), Michael Stuhlbarg (Hugo, A Serious Man, Cold Souls), and Rip Torn (Eulogy, Dodgeball, Wonderboys).
Men In Black 3 will open in theaters on May 25, 2012.
