After shutting the project down because of a high budget, Universal has decided to bring back Dracula Year Zero with a new director.
According to Deadline, Gary Shore will be directing the new film. At one point the project was very close to production and had Sam Worthington set to star with Alex Proyas attached to direct. There is now a new script and a lower budget.
Worthington who is not involved, would have played the role of Prince Vlad of Transylvania, A.K.A. Vlad the Impaler. The historical figure's blood lust inspired the character of Dracula that we all know and love today.
Shore is known for directing The Cup Of Tears which is currently being turned into a feature length project at Working Title.
After the budget issues came up, Proyas left to direct the adaptation of Paradise Lost which was recently shut down because of high cost. The new draft of the script was written by Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless. As far as the rest of the project is concerned, Michael De Luca will continue as a producer
