Director Nicolas Winding Refn is tired of talking about Drive, but don't think that means he isn't proud of the success. Now he's talking about doing the sequel.
In an interview with shortlist Refn talked about the success of the film, working on his next project with Ryan Gosling and moving on to a sequel. The follow up to the novel is set to come out in the spring.
Refn said "I’m just so sick of talking about Drive.” He made sure to take about the success and say "You’re always happy with the success. But I’ve talked about this movie extensively for more than a year, so that’s it. I don’t know what else I can add."
If a sequel to Drive is adapted, Refn is open to the possibility of directing it saying "Well I think that... hmm. Let me just say that I haven’t made up my mind yet. Stranger things have happened..." When shortlist brought up the fact that he would have to talk more he responded "Yeah, maybe I shouldn't do it.
The funny part about Refn is that although he created one of the most memorable films about driving recently he doesn't even have a license. In fact he's failed the test eight times. "I just didn’t get it, I never passed. There was a sense that I shouldn’t get a driver’s licence. They were right, I shouldn’t.
His next film is called Only God Forgives and he is again working with Ryan Gosling. Working with Gosling is now normal for him, he said "Well yeah, it just feels right. Ryan and I are very similar. On Drive I was living with Carey [Mulligan] because she had no place to stay, and Ryan would always come over and hang out. So it was very communal in that sense."
Drive is out on Blu-ray and DVD on 30 January
