I absolutely love animator Bill Plympton's languid and bizarre style and am ecstatic that, after a successful Kickstarter campaign, his animated feature film Cheatin' will soon see the light of day.
Which is pretty amazing considering that Plympton drew all 40,000 frames himself (although he did have a staff of ten who helped with the compositing)...Christ, my hand is cramping just thinking about it.
The synopsis of the film sounds better than anything that Hollywood is putting out and is weird enough to appeal to every revenge-loving freak:
In a fateful bumper car collision, Jake and Ella meet and become the most loving couple in the long history of Romance. But when a scheming “other” woman drives a wedge of jealousy into their perfect courtship, insecurity and hatred spell out an untimely fate. With only the help of a disgraced magician and his forbidden “soul machine”, Ella takes the form of Jake's numerous lovers, desperately fighting through malfunction and deceit as they try to reclaim their destiny.
I can't wait...
Trailer after the break.
