I am planning on starting a new tradition in my neck of the woods by hosting a weekly cocktail party at my house in order to bring back the days when social drinking in the evening was considered high sophistication (right behind spouse swapping).
Can you imagine a chilly fall evening spent discussing political ennui over a bowl of nut mix while sipping a particularly jovial Jack Rose?
Why, it would be sublime.
The desire to concoct such an event was completely inspired by a lovely little book called An Illustrated Guide to Cocktails: 50 Classic Cocktail Recipes, Tips and Tales (by Orr Shtuhl and illustrated by Elizabeth Graeber) which makes alcoholism adorable by showcasing animals downing the booze.
And although it does look like a children's book, I would avoid passing it to bored eight year-olds to keep them quiet at family get-togethers as their parents won't be happy with you when one of their offspring demands to be made a Manhattan (although knowledge and a keen taste for a discerning alcoholic beverage will probably take them far in life).
Book trailer after the break.
