After going through The Bourne Legacy, Universal is looking to make Robert Ludlum's final novel into a new movie.
According to Deadline, the studio has hired writers Irwin Winkler and Jose Ruisanchez to pen the script. The Sigma Protocol is the last book that Ludlum wrote before his passing. The studio hopes to build the story into a franchise that could last multiple films.
The novel is centered around a man on vacation in Switzerland. His trip takes a dramatic turn when he runs into an old friend only to witness him murder six people in cold blood. This ordinary gets thrown into a story of conspiracy and has to run for his life.
Winkler says “Unlike Bourne, who is a trained assassin, this is an innocent guy traveling in Europe who gets in way over his head. And it has all the great Ludlum intrigue.”
Universal has been working on the project since 2002 and at one time had Iron Man writers Art Marcum and Matt Holloway attached with Antoine Fugua set to direct.
