A couple of days ago something happened that just might change the way movies get made.Veronica Mars, that amazingly beloved show about a high-school/college student who moonlights as a P.I (and got nixed only 3 years out of the gate), ended up on Kickstarter (through show creator Rob Thomas and star Kristen "I Love Sloths" Bell). Where it sat there hoping to generated $2 million bucks so a movie version of itself could get made.
And you know what?
The awesome fans of the show shouted "FUCK, YEAH!" to the heavens, opened up their wallets and funded the shit out of it, reaching the $2 million dollar goal in less than 12 hours (in fact, as of this morning- with 28 days of funding left- it has over $3 million).
So what does this means for showrunners/creators/stars of shows that have the rabid fan base but very little support from the studios to put the cash up to fund a movie?
That it is now an entirely different ballgame out there(but only if the Veronica Mars movie is successful).
