Remember William Lustig's 1980 cult horror film Maniac? Well, it's being remade and Elijah Wood (Lord of the Rings trilogy, Sin City) is playing the title character.
Wood has only played in this genre once before when he played the silent maniac Kevin in Sin City and he kind of owned that role... all the more reason to be excited about him starring in a remake of Maniac.
Alexandre Aja and Gregory Levasseu (High Tension, The Hills Have Eyes, Piranha 3D) wrote the script for the remake that follows a guy who sells antique mannequins and moonlights as a deranged serial killer, who finds his victims via the Interweb and scalps them.
Franch Khalfoun (P2, Wrong Turn At Tahoe) is directing the film, which has my hopes for the film leveling off at a good B-movie... and there's nothing wrong with a solid B-movie.
Wood will next be seen in the two Hobbit movies as well as this genre gem.
You should pair up both Maniac and Vigilante into an awesome William Lustig double feature, both films are currently streaming on Netflix... in HD no less.
No release date has been set yet for Maniac.
