NBC is going up North and picking up a new medical drama that's set for a summer run.

According to Deadline, the network is in negotiations to acquire Saving Hope with Erica Durance, Daniel Shanks, and Daniel Gillies set to star. The show was co-created and written by Malcolm MacRury and Morwyn Brebner and inspired by writer Ian Brown who spent eight weeks in a hospital.

In the eight weeks that Brown spent at Toronto's Mount Sinai Hospital, he created a series of articles that ran in 2005. While his stories are the basis for this show, he is not attached to the 13-episode run in any way.

The show is described as "sexy, fast-paced drama." The story takes place in a fictional hospital in Toronto and follows some of the doctors and staff as the take care of patients and try to deal with their own personal lives at the same time.

Michael Shanks (Stargate SG-1) stars as the chief surgeon who is in a coma but wanders the wards in spirit form. Erica Durance (Smallville) plays his fiancee and fellow surgeon. Daniel Gillies' (The Vampire Diaries) role is simply described as "a hot new surgeon."
