The green machine a little off target with his post-holiday return
The CW's current DC Comics-based comic book hero series, Arrow, closed out 2012 with an action-packed confrontation between The Hood - better known outside the series (and to the world) as Green Arrow - and mysterious, equally armed Archer.
That unfortunately meant the post-holiday return was a bit slow, often an emotional downer that favored dramatic pauses and cerebral conflicts (read: melodrama) over action. We also saw a lot of extra sulking and were served up trite writing that was meant more to remind Hood that he needs to remain a hero than entertain the audience.
Not Cool at All, Man
This episode begins with firefighters doing what they do in a conveniently un-smoky building filled with fire. A firefighter surprisingly douses another in gas so they are immediately engulfed in flames. This launches the episodes central plotline which involve a bit of cross investigations by Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) and the often cranky ex, Dinah "Laurel" Lance (Katie Cassidy). She eventually gets hold of a cell phone left by her father, police detective Quentin Lance (Paul Blackthorne), that is a direct line to The Hood. She'll eventually use it, they partake in some breathy conversations and their paths cross from some awkward, potentially revealing situations. But more on that later.
