I have always been fascinated by Rube Goldberg machines ever since I saw my first one when I was eight. My family and I were at a science fair somewhere in Oregon and this guy had built this huge contraption filled with complex mechanisms that looked like a jumbled maze of destruction. But when he started it up, it overwhelmed my little brain with how each piece worked together until the very end when a race car lit a match and ignited a candle.
Needless to say, I was hooked. So anytime I get to see one of this miraculous designs work, I get excited.
And this short film about writing a postcard with one of these machines is no exception.
Oh sure, it might only take five seconds to write out "Wish You Were Here" but where's the fun in it? Why not make the experience super hard and fantastic?
After-all, don't we need a little Rube in all of us?
