NEW One-Sheet For 21 JUMP STREET

Did you know a major studio could get away with a blow job joke on a movie's one-sheet? Well, Columbia has released a new poster for their big screen adaptation of the 80's cop drama 21 Jump Street and the tagline on it is kinda awesome.

21 Jump Street will follow a pair of underachieving cops (Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill) who are sent back to high school to go undercover and bring down a dangerous drug ring.

The last time a drama TV series was adapted as a comedy things didn't really work out... see Starsky & Hutch. Let's hope things work out differently for 21 Jump Street.

The film also stars Ellie Kemper (Bridesmaids, Somewhere, Get Him to the Greek), Ice Cube (Lottery Ticket, Friday, Boyz n the Hood), Brie Larson (Rampart, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, Tanner Hall), Johnny Simmons (The Conspirator, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, The Spirit), and Johnny Depp (The Rum Diary, The Tourist, Ed Wood).

21 Jump Street will open in theaters on March 16, 2012.

Check out the full one sheet after the break.

A new German trailer for Joss Whedon's The Avengers has popped up online and it features some new footage.

We get a glimpse of Captain America's (Chris Evans) new, modern costume and we also see a conservation take place between Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) and Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo)... but you'll only understand it if you speak German. We also get a quick glimpse of some kind of alien space craft and bursts of blue/purple lightening being shot at a couple of our superheroes.

With The Avengers, Marvel Studios will attempt to expand their carefully crafted comic book universe by bringing all the major players of said universe into one film, which includes Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), The Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson), Captain America (Chris Evans), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), and Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner).

The Avengers will open in theaters on May 4th, 2012.

Check out the trailer after the jump.

THR is reporting that Hank Azaria (The Smurfs, Love and Other Drugs, Year One) Chris North (Sex and the City, Mr. 3000, The Glass House), Bobby Cannavale (Win Win, The Station Agent, Fast Food Nation), and Robert Patrick (Flags of Our Fathers, Copland, Firewall) have all been cast in Lovelace.

Lovelace is one of the current in development biopic's on Deep Throat star Linda Lovelace. After her starring role in the classic adult film, she went on to become the world's first erotic superstar, before developing a giant drug problem, and then becoming a spokeswoman for the anti-pornography movement.

Amanda Seyfried (In Time, Chloe) is set to star as Lovelace and Peter Sarsgaard (An Education, Green Lantern) will play her husband/manager Chuck Traynor. Sharon Stone (Bobby, Casino) has also been cast to play Linda's mother.

Azaria is set to play Jerry Damiano, the director of Deep Throat, Cannavale and North will play the roles of the film's financiers, Butchie Periano and Anthony Romano and Patrick will play Lovelace's father, John.

Just a few weeks ago FOG reported that both Juno Temple (Dirty Girl, Greenberg) and Wes Bentley (Ghostrider, American Beauty) were also cast in the film, with the former landing the role of Lovelace's best friend and Bentley playing Lovelace's second husband, Larry Marchiano.

The script was written by Andy Bellin (Trust) and will be directed by Ron Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman (Howl).

The other Linda Lovelace biopic in the works is Inferno: A Linda Lovelace Story, which will be based on the novel Ordeal: An Autobiography by Linda Lovelace with Mike McGrady. Matthew Wilder is making his directing debut and Malin Ackerman (Watchmen, Couples Retreat) has been cast in the title role, along with Matt Dillon (Armored, Drugstore Cowboy) playing Traynor.

Production on Lovelace was set to begin today.

J.J ABRAMS Talks STAR TREK 2, 3D, IMAX and CLOVERFIELD 2

J.J Abrams is a very secretive person when talking about his upcoming movies. Now he's talking about how Trek 2 was shot and a sequel to Cloverfield.

MTV's Josh Horowitz talked to Abrams recently and although he wasn't able to get anything really amazing out of him, Abrams did give some details about how the movie will be filmed and even the possibility of a sequel to his monster movie Cloverfield.

While Abrams thinks that it's too early to be talking about Star Trek, he does believe that Damon Lindelof, Bob Orci, and Alex Kurtzman wrote "the most amazing script," adding that he is "thrilled to get a chance to direct it."

Primaries will begin shooting next month and with the time that they have, Abrams says the movie is being shot "on film, 2-D, and then we'll do a good high-end conversion like the 'Harry Potter' movie and all that."

Abrams also talked about shooting in IMAX saying "We were talking about it and I would love to do it. IMAX is my favorite format; I'm a huge fan."

When he was asked about a potential Cloverfield sequel, he only responded with "I wish I could give you an update."

He added that "We would love to do it if there was an idea that is worth your time. We're playing with some ideas, but we haven't found the one that you go, 'That's the reason to do it."

BLOOPERS Is Coming Back To TV

It's been 30 years since the classic series Bloopers was on the air, but now it is making a comeback.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Dick Clark Productions is bringing back the show that started in the 80s. The new show will come to Tribune-owned stations in LA, New York, Chicago, and some other cities.

The new show will be made up of bloopers and hidden-camera bits along with user-generated videos.

The original show was basically the predecessor to Punk'd and had actors playing practical jokes on one another. The weekly show started in 1981 and led to a few specials and a big show called Super Bloopers that was hosted by Dick Clark and Ed McMahon.

Dick Clark productions CEO Mark Shapiro said "We started Bloopers in 1981 and are delighted to bring this timeless franchise back to today's audience."

The show is set to premiere next fall with a weekly series of 120 half-hour episodes. Weekends will show back to back episodes for an hour-long block.

VIN DIESEL Says FAST & FURIOUS 7 Is In The Works

Vin Diesel says that the sixth story in the Fast & Furious franchise is just too big and must be split up, therefore a seventh film is now in the works.

THR reports that the creative team at Fast and Furious, which is made up of director Justin Lin and writer Chris Morgan, realized the story they had was too big for just one movie so now the sixth and seventh movie are being written simultaneously.

Diesel says adding a new film is because of the "inclusion of so many characters, and the broadening of the scope."

The franchise moved from racing to action-adventure with the last film and that will likely follow through into the next two films. they films could also bring back actors like Eva Mendes and Michelle Rodriguez.

Diesel said "We have to pay off this story, we have to service all of these character relationships, and when we started mapping all that out it just went beyond 110 pages,”He added. “The studio said, ‘You can’t fit all that story in one damn movie!’"

The actor did not say any details about the plot or characters or whether the two films would be a split story or individual standalone titles.

HBO Renews ENLIGHTENED, Cancels BORED TO DEATH, HUNG, and HOW TO MAKE IT IN AMERICA

HBO has decided to get rid of fan favorite Bored to Death along with Hung and How to Make it in America, but keep Enlightened for a second season.

According to Deadline, the Laura Dern comedy Enlightened will get a second season, probably thanks to two Golden Globe nominations. The network also made the decision to cancel the three comedies Hung, Bored to Death and How to Make it in America.

Of the four comedies that found there futures today, Hung was rated the highest and lead actor Thomas Jane just received his second nomination for a Golden Globe.

Bored To Death has garnered critical acclaim, and had many big name stars, but that apparently wasn't enough to see the show into a fourth season. Hung would have also gone into it's fourth season if it were not cancelled.

At the moment, Enlightened is the only comedy, along with Eastbound & Down, that will be returning now that those three shows are gone, Entourage is finished, and Larry David hasn't decide whether or not to continue Curb Your Enthusiasm.

New comedies joining Enlightened include the Julia Louis-Dreyfus starring Veep, Ricky Gervais' Life's Too Short, Judd Apatow's Girls, and Chris Lilley's Angry Boys.

A CATHARTIC 42 MINUTES WITH GORDON RAMSEY...After All 'Tis the Season To Yell At Mankind

And another thing....

Having spent two decades working in the retail field, I must confess that my soul has finally dried up and blown away...basically I am dead inside, which comes in handy during the last few days before the holidays as that is when most consumers enjoy taking out their frustrations on me through a verbal barrage of insults and emotional abuse.

And, because I am at the mercy of corporate bigwigs who have never set foot into an actual store and experienced the pleasure of having an art easel thrown at them because it isn't on sale, I am not allowed to grab said customer by the shirt collar and pummel them into a bloody pulp even though I so desperately want to.

But coming home and watching a supercut of Gordon Ramsey screaming at people for 42 minutes does help alleviate all the violent stress that builds up (that and Sambuca) and for that I am ever thankful.

So join me won't you in embracing the holiday spirit by screaming a nice and loud "F*ckwad" along with Mr. Ramsey after the break.

It feels even better if you are wearing a Santa hat...just saying.

NEED A LAST MINUTE GIFT? How About A Life-Size Tactical Bleeding Zombie Target

File this under "Best Gift Ever"

I don't know about you but guns and Xmas always feel like they should go together and what better way to celebrate the birth of Santa than to set up a fake zombie filled with bloody goo on the antique console table and shoot it in the head until it pops off.

These life-size replicas of various nefarious zombie folk by the company Zombie Industries (which includes: a Xmas Zombie, a Nazi, a Terrorist, a North Korean Soldier and my personal favorite...Chris) come fully engorged with biodegradable matter so that when it takes a crow bar to the head it spurts Christmas Red brain matter all over....ahhh, I can just imagine the fun that all the kids can have with it over at Grandma's house.

And the best part? They cost about $90

After the break is a wonderful review of the zombie targets by a guy named Ike who likes to bring his small toddler son to the range and kill things with guns and arrows (there's something heartwarming about a dad asking his son if he's "...ready to shoot Barry").

Family time is so important don't you think?

BRUCE GREENWOOD(Admiral Pike) May Have a Part in STAR TREK SEQUEL

$

Promoted to Admiral at the end of the 2009 Star Trek, Bruce Greenwood has been written a part in the sequel.

Trekmovie.com reports that writer/producer Roberto Orci left a comment on their site saying that while their is a part written for Greenwood, nothing has been accepted yet. So we may see him, but we may not.

Orci's exact words in the comment were "We wrote a part for Greenwood. Let us hope he says "Yes!"

Captain Pike was a big part in the 2009 movie and served as a sort of surrogate father to Kirk. Hopefully his part is more than just showing up on a screen and giving orders like past Admirals have. Did you even remember that Tyler Perry was in the movie, he was an Admiral.

When we last saw Pike he was in a wheelchair after being tortured by Nero, being promoted to Admiral. It's unknown whether the chair will return buy Greenwood has said that he would rather be standing if he returns.

So now we play the waiting game to see if Greenwood accepts the role, my guess is he will, but I have been wrong in the past.

I know that I am loading you up on various holiday crap but when your beat is subversive pop culture stuff, this is what comes up on the Internet during this particular portion of the year (so deal with it).

And it doesn't hurt that one of the holiday-themed discoveries is an animated Christmas card from director and artist Terry Gilliam from 1968 which still holds up after 43 years and looks fabulous (Something I don't think any of the Kardashians will ever be able to say).

After the break is the wonder that is Gilliam.

Enjoy.

Smallville: Random, Awesome and WTF?! - S2E18: Visitor

$
0
0

A Smallville High student believes he’s an alien.

Seems everyone is jumping on the old “I’m Part Alien” bandwagon.

It’s like the new veganism.

The Random
1. Cyrus is another character that we’re supposed to care about, but looking like the lovechild of Coldplay and Eminem, and being a total douche, he just comes off as wholly unlikeable.

2. Helen is all about sneaking around the mansion because the foundation of every good relationship is deceit. Of course, for most women, a room full of Clark Kent photos and alien symbols would be a dealbreaker, but to her credit, she just rolls with it.

3. These bullies in Smallville really do hold a grudge, huh? Because the rational response to someone getting you detention is attempted murder.

“This’ll teach him not to stand up to us bullies!”

The Awesome
1. Clark shows some suaveness by letting Lana board Whitney’s horse on his farm. Unfortunately for him, the horse is still the only thing she’ll ride.

2. For a nutjob tool, Cyrus sure does have some good tech lying about. Then again, so did did the Unabomber...

3. It’s been a while since a truck got wrecked in Smallville, so Clark makes up for it by eyejaculating the crap out of one.

“So, Lana, with the horse dying and all, you think maybe you and I could…”

The WTF?!
1. One of the stereotypical bullies tries to intimidate Clark…by standing on his tiptoes so he can look him in the eyes. Yeah. Real tough.

2. So, how is Cyrus not still in an institution? Because I’m pretty sure “batshit crazy” is an actual medical diagnosis these days.

3. Once again, Smallville General displays its security minded, patients first atmosphere as another patient under emergency supervision walks on out without anyone noticing.

“Yo, fool. I’m from Candor City. South Side. Recognize.”

JESSICA BIEL Cast In EMANUEL AND THE TRUTH ABOUT FISHES

According to Variety, Jessica Biel (New Year's Eve, The A-Team, The Rule of Attraction) is in final negotiations to star opposite Kaya Scodelario (Clash of the Titans, Wuthering Heights, Moon) in Emanuel and the Truth About Fishes.

The film was written and will be directed by Francesca Gregorini (Tanner Hall) and will follow Emanuel (Scodelario), a troubled 17-year-old girl who babysits her new neighbor Linda's baby, which is really a very life-like doll. She plays along with Linda's delusion while also befriending her. Oh, and Linda looks exactly like Emanuel's late mother.

This sounds like a unique little story and it's an interesting choice for Biel, who still needs to prove herself dramatically.

Biel is in final talks to play Linda, who's described as being completely traumatized by the death of her child and now cares for the baby doll as if it were actually alive.

Gregorini's Tanner Hall star Rooney Mara (The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, Nightmare On Elm Street) was originally supposed to play Emanuel until production got shifted from summer 2011 to early 2012.

Biel can currently be seen in theaters in New Year's Eve, she will next star opposite Gerard Butler in the comedy Playing the Field, which is set to be released on March 19th. She just recently wrapped production on Len Weisman's (Underworld, Live Free or Die Hard) Total Recall remake.

What's Up, Doc? Another WILD ADVENTURE For DOC SAVAGE!

The Man of Bronze returns!

Or more accurately Kenneth Robeson returns to write a new Doc Savage adventure!  This time, pulp writer and historian Will Murray is the architect behind Altus Press' latest, Horror in Gold, assuming the Robeson pseudonym.

As for the plot?

Try this:

It began with an uncanny encounter on busy Seventh Avenue. Two men pass each other in the street, walking along calmly one minute—struck down the next by a horrific fate.

All over Manhattan, soundless detonations cut down prince and pauper alike. No one is safe. Great buildings are reduced to ruin. Banks are demolished. The authorities stand helpless.

Only one man, Doc Savage—scientist, adventurer and superman—can penetrate the eerie enigma that threatens to bring the mightiest city on earth to its knees. But when The Alchemist decrees that the Man of Bronze must surrender unconditionally to save New York, will Doc be snuffed out next?

From the besieged canyons of New York to the rugged coast of Alaska, Doc Savage and his men race to resolve the riddle that brings grisly doom to ordinary citizens—and threatens the economic recovery of a Depression-besieged world.

Press release after the jump.

ALTUS PRESS RELEASES SECOND OF
THE WILD ADVENTURES OF DOC SAVAGE

HORROR IN GOLD

Following up on last summer’s successful first book in its Wild Adventures of Doc Savage series, Altus Press is excited to offer Horror in Gold. Set in 1936 Manhattan, Horror in Gold opens with an inexplicable wave of human detonations that brings legendary scientist-adventurer Doc Savage into the investigation to confront a strange new type of terrorism.

Written by prolific pulp writer Will Murray, who has won acclaim for his unequalled ten-year tenure ghostwriting Warren Murphy and Richard Sapir’s Destroyer action-adventure series, The Wild Adventures of Doc Savage is a continuation of the well-received Doc novels Murray wrote for Bantam Books back in the 1990s, along with the late Lester Dent. These new posthumous collaborations will be published under the pen name of Kenneth Robeson. Over a period of 30 years, the Doc Savage series sold over 20 million copies for Bantam Books.

Horror in Gold is CSI-style Doc Savage story,” says Murray. “Most of the action takes place in and around Doc’s skyscraper headquarters, which we seen in more detail than ever before. With ordinary Gothamites falling victim to the most grisly murder method ever recorded, Doc spends a lot of time in the city morgue and in his super-scientific laboratory assembling the pieces of the puzzle. In between, the action never stops, as Doc and his men race to prevent an escalating tragedy—culminating in an explosive climax around a dormant Alaskan volcano which shouldn’t be rumbling to life, but is!

“This story is based on an unused Doc Savage plot Lester Dent wrote in 1935, but was considered too visceral to be published in the pages of Doc Savage Magazine back then. To live up to its potential, I wrote the most jaw-dropping opening chapter of my 50-novel career. I introduce one of the most vicious supercriminals in pulp history, The Alchemist, and a half-forgotten members of the original Doc Savage cast returns after an absence of almost 80 years.”

The first release in this series, The Desert Demons, had an Amazon ranking of #9,768.

Horror in Gold will be released in multiple formats:

  • 6”x9” trade paperbacks which will be available to bookstores and comic shops everywhere, as well as to individuals purchasers through the official Wild Adventures of Doc Savage website.
  • e-book formats available for all the most popular e-readers: Amazon
Kindle, Sony Reader, Barnes & Noble Nook, and Apple's iBookstore (for
 the iPad and iPhone).

  • 6”x9”deluxe hardcovers which will contain an illustrated Afterword detailing the background creation of each novel, as well as bonus articles and biographies by Will Murray and others—available in this edition only. These will also include signed bookplates autographed by Will Murray, award-winning cover artist Joe DeVito, and "Lester Dent" (in facsimile).
The Wild Adventures of Doc Savage is being published in tandem with Radioarchives.com’s audiobooks of Will Murray’s original Bantam Books Doc Savage novels of the 1990s. Three have been released so far, most recently The Jade Ogre.

RYAN GOSLING To Star In GASPER NOE'S THE GOLDEN SUICIDES?

$
0
0

American author Brett Easton Ellis (American Psycho, The Informers, Less Than Zero) has revealed that Ryan Gosling (Drive, The Ides of March, Crazy Stupid Love) is in talks to star in The Golden Suicides through his Twitter feed (via The Playlist).

For the past few years Ellis has been working on a script for The Golden Suicides, which tells the story of artists Henry Blake and Theresa Duncan, who killed themselves in 2007... supposedly after being harassed by Scientologists.

Gus Van Sant (Drugstore Cowboy, My Own Private Idaho, Good Will Hunting) consulted on the project initially, but never had any intention of directing and then it was rumored that Gasper Noe (Enter the Void, Irreversible) was circling the project.

Now, it looks like Noe is officially on board, as Ellis tweeted, "Ryan came to meet Gasper Noe who is directing The Golden Suicides," and later added "Ryan Gosling looked impeccable eating an apple." Of course he did.

Ellis also tweeted "Ryan Gosling is going to have to wait this year out and then win the Oscar for playing Jeremy Blake in The Golden Suicides," which to me sounds like the conversation between Noe and Gosling was the real deal and Gosling is seriously considering the role.

After working with Nicolas Windng Refn on Drive, it seems like a natural progression for Gosling to work with Noe, another acclaimed auteur. This is definitely in the early stages and scheduling is the biggest obstacle... Gosling will re-team with Refn on Only God Forgives and he will also star in Terrence Malick's Lawless, both films are shooting next year.

Joaquin Phoenix (Gladiator, Signs, We Own the Night) could be Noe's back up actor for the role though, as Ellis also tweeted that "Joaquin Phoenix was hanging with Gasper when we arrived."

Hopefully an official casting announcement for the project will happen shortly, but in the meantime we can salivate over a Noe and Gosling collaboration.
