British Panel Shows You Should Be Watching

Written by John Teehan

There are a lot of things the British aren't known for.

Cuisine, for one. Rap battles are another. But the British know comedy. You have to give them that. It may not be the same as American comedy, but, like American cuisine, that's not necessarily a bad thing. I've a great love for British comedy, and one of the finest examples of it today are not on the standup stage or almost-but-not-quite-charming Hugh Grant films, but in the panel quiz show format.

Don't believe me? Fine. End of column. Thanks for reading! I can be reached at-- [Editor's Note: Do NOT end column here. Keep going. – SB]

Fine. Don't believe me?

Here are four British comedy panel shows you should check out--and they're all on YouTube. Let's hear it for loose application of international copyright! Woot!

By Stefan Blitz

There's no doubt that the boldest and most personal fashion statement anyone can make is in one's selection of t-shirt.  Personally, I love them.  It's an opportunity to show the world what pop culture I care about, a wonderful flashback to the past and a fantastic way to initiate any nerd discussion.

For this installment of Cool Shirts, I took a look at some of the shirts fromour friends at SuperHeroStuff.com which is not only one of the industry's oldest superhero specialty shops, but also one of the best.

SuperHeroStuff sells more than shirts.  Among their wares are hats, hoodies, underwear, socks, action figures, stickers, buttons, belts wallets, cardboard standups, jewelry and much more including large selections for women and children.

These are a few of my recent favorites.

BATMAN: BAD BLOOD (review)

0

Review by Clay N Ferno

Batman: Bad Blood is the latest DC Universe Animated Original Movie and is quite possibly the best Bat-family animation since 2010's Batman: Under the Red Hood. The animated franchise rebooted itself to align with the New 52 in 2012 with Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox, and Batman himself, along with Damian Wayne and Nightwing, Alfred and the rest have their own continuity to follow now starting with 2103's Batman: Son of Batman and the Court of Owls storyline in 2014's Batman vs. Robin.

With a dynamic screenplay from comic book industry veteran J.M. DeMatteis (Justice League International, Spider-Man: Kraven's Last Hunt), Batman: Bad Blood borrows heavily from New 52 storylines featured Grant Morrison's Batman, Batman Incorporated, Batman and Robin and Batwing as well as Batwoman from Greg Rucka and J.H. Williams III.

The stripped down Batman: Incorporated story in Batman: Bad Blood definitely works, with dynamic action, great character work and introduction and nods to the spanning comic stories that preceded this feature.

What I Learned From Watching Every FORENSIC FILES Episode Ever

By Sharon Knolle

As a devoted watcher of Forensic Files and many, many other true crime shows, I've learned a number of things. Among them, to be completely paranoid.

And what NOT to do if you're a victim or a killer.

Of course, I'm not advocating anyone resort to murder. Ever.

And when criminals are stupid, it means they're more likely to get caught, which is great.

And yet... you can't help but shake your head at their complete ignorance of how forensics work. Do people not realize that everyone will know when they're lying? Much as we watch Psycho and weirdly root for Norman Bates to successfully hide Marion Crane's car, so I feel the need to point out these incredibly obvious screw-ups.

Minecraft 101: Tips to Staying Safe on the Servers

Photograph by Tim Pierce

On December 21, 2015, a somewhat popular “Let’s Play” YouTuber named LionMaker tweeted unacceptable images of an underage admirer, whom he connected with via Minecraft. Unfortunately, this is not the first time LionMaker took advantage of an emotionally vulnerable teen, and it is far from the first time the insanely popular game has been used for inappropriate activities.

Minecraft is indeed beloved by millions of gamers around the world; it is now the second best-selling video game in history, and it is quickly gaining on the number-one spot. Minecraft is even more popular among children, as the wide-open world encourages connection and creativity unlike any other game on the market. Yet, it is precisely this seemingly uncontrolled environment that has many Minecraft players (and parents of Minecraft players) concerned about safety.

Minecraft has the potential to be exceedingly beneficial for children and adults, but as with any online social experience, players must understand and abide by safety precautions to get the most from their games. Here are some helpful hints to make any Minecraft game as safe as it is exciting.

HAIL, CAESAR! (review)

Review by Benn Robbins
Produced by Joel Coen, Ethan Coen,
Tim Bevan, Eric Fellner
Written and Directed by Joel and Ethan Coen
Starring Josh Brolin, George Clooney,
Alden Ehrenreich, Ralph Fiennes, Jonah Hill,
Scarlett Johansson, Frances McDormand, Tilda Swinton,
Channing Tatum, Alison Pill, Christopher Lambert,
David Krumholtz, Fisher Stevens, Clancy Brown,
Robert Picardo, Dolph Lundgren

The long awaited film Hail, Caesar! from four-time Oscar-winning filmmakers Joel and Ethan Coen is absolutely perfect.

I can’t remember the last time I sat in a movie theater and laughed till my sides hurt and tears poured out of my face. At times I laughed that laugh where no sound comes out and I nearly sent myself into an asthma attack.

Reminding me of their earlier comedies, Raising Arizona and O Brother, Where Art Thou?, Hail, Caesar! is a beautiful homage to a bygone era known as “The Golden Age of Hollywood”.

Set in the 1950’s and with television all the rage, big studios like the Capitol Pictures must have the biggest, brightest, and most popular stars in their films. The sets are bigger, production values soar along with the cost and with this comes turmoil. Stars get into trouble and all sorts of predicaments occur for directors and producers.

That is where Eddie Mannix steps in.
