OUR BRAND IS CRISIS Arrives on Blu-ray and DVD on 2/2; Own It Early on Digital HD 1/19

Sometimes winning means changing the rules when Our Brand is Crisis arrives onto Blu-ray and Digital HD. Academy Award® winners Sandra Bullock (“The Blind Side”) and Billy Bob Thornton (“Sling Blade”) star in Our Brand is Crisis, from director David Gordon Green (“Pineapple Express,” “George Washington”) and producers Grant Heslov and George Clooney, the Oscar-winning producers of “Argo.”

A Bolivian presidential candidate failing badly in the polls enlists the firepower of an elite American management team, led by the deeply damaged but still brilliant strategist “Calamity” Jane Bodine (Bullock). In self-imposed retirement following a scandal that earned her nickname and rocked her to her core, Jane is coaxed back into the game for the chance to beat her professional nemesis, the loathsome Pat Candy (Thornton), now coaching the opposition. But as Candy zeroes in on every vulnerability – both on and off the campaign trail – Jane is plunged into a personal crisis as intense as the one her team exploits nationally to boost their numbers. Dramatic, rapid-fire and laced with satire, Our Brand is Crisis reveals the cynical machinations and private battles of world-class political consultants for whom nothing is sacred and winning is all that matters.

The Search For Michael Rockefeller documents Milt Machlin’s attempts to find Rockefeller or at least to confirm his fate and is told through a combination of Machlin’s own 16mm travel footage and readings from various interviews and accounts of other anthropologists, missionaries, and travelers of the time.

The Search For Michael Rockefeller explains how after graduating from Harvard, Rockefeller joined an expedition to Dutch New Guinea in order to study tribal artistic customs and acquire examples of their art for museums.  Despite his family's fortune,  his passion lay with studying and trading with these tribes.

Anchor Bay Entertainment and The Weinstein Company are proud to announce the home entertainment release of the delectable “four star feast” (Pete Hammond, Deadline) BURNT starring the “strong ensemble cast” (Philippa Hawker, The Sydney Morning Herald) Bradley Cooper (Silver Linings Playbook, American Sniper, Upcoming: Joy) Sienna Miller (American Sniper), Omar Sy (Jurassic World, The Intouchables), Daniel Brühl (Inglourious Basterds, Rush), Alicia Vikander (The Danish Girl, Ex Machina), Matthew Rhys ( TV’s “Brothers & Sisters”, TV’s “The Americans”), Lily James (Cinderella, TV’s “Downton Abbey”) with Uma Thurman (Kill Bill, Playing for Keeps), and Emma Thompson (Men, Women and Children, Sense and Sensibility, Love Actually).

Directed by John Wells (August: Osage County, The Company Men, TV’s Shameless, TV’s “ER”), with a story by Michael Kalesniko and screenplay by Steven Knight (TV’s “Peaky Blinders”, Dirty Pretty Things, Locke). BURNT will be available on Digital HD January 15, 2016 from Starz Digital before heading to Blu-ray and DVD from Anchor Bay Entertainment and On Demand January 26, 2016.

Chef Adam Jones (Bradley Cooper) had it all – and lost it. The former enfant terrible of the Paris restaurant scene had earned two Michelin stars and only ever cared about the thrill of creating explosions of taste. To land his own kitchen and that third elusive star though, Jones will need to leave his bad habits behind and get the best of the best on his side, including the beautiful Helene (Sienna Miller). BURNT is a remarkably funny and emotional story about the love of food, the love between two people, and the power of second chances.

“Bradley Cooper and Sienna Miller heat up the screen” (Pete Hammond, Deadline) in this “smart and sexy” (Charles Thorp, Men’s Journal) release. BURNT is rated R and has a running time of 101 minutes. DVD and Blu-ray special features include Burnt: In the Kitchen with Bradley Cooper, five deleted scenes, Q&A highlights with the Director and cast and Feature Commentary with Director John Wells and Executive Chef Consultant Marcus Wareing.

Supernatural creatures seem to dominate media attention in cycles.

In a matter of 5 years, we’ve seen vampires return to vogue with an oversaturation of vampire themed TV, books, and films that made the blood-sucking motif transition into the trendy and then the passé.

At the moment, the zombie craze may just reach a similar oversaturation line, forcing the subgenre to also begin to lose its steam, which means that a new supernatural horror creature can take over.

Will we see a return of the werewolf next? Or Frankenstein?

If comics continue to influence TV and film and vice versa, then I suspect the new supernatural fixture to capture the terror of the public will be…witches.

Witches? Is there anything new to add to the mythology? Haven’t witches remained in our collective imaginations for hundreds of years?

While witches never really disappeared from the horror genre over the years, the last time I can recall witches in the foreground of public attention is in the 1990s, and those witches tended to be more of the sillier, more kid-friendly kind (think Sabrina the Teenage Witch, Hocus Pocus, Halloween Town, and late night episodes of Bewitched on Nick at Nite). Based on the enormous success of Scott Snyder’s Wytches, it looks like the cute witches of the 90s are getting a makeover, one that brings them closer to the primordial connection of witches to the earth and to evil.

The Most Depressing Christmas Songs of All Time

Written by Sharon Knolle

Christmas songs are usually cheerful little numbers, about Santa Claus coming to town or chestnuts roasting on an open fire. Even more contemporary numbers are usually upbeat, such as “All I Want for Christmas is You.” But there are several holiday songs whose lyrics are downright gloomy.

Since Christmas is one of the most stressful times of year, it's only fair that some more ambivalent feelings about the season surface.

Except for the one about the little boy that Santa Claus forgot.

That one's just cruel.

Story by Tony Jopia, Andy Davie

Starring Caroline Munroe, Joe Egan, Kristofer Dayne,

The IMDB synopsis of Crying Wolf states:“The comedy horror Crying Wolf tells the story of strange and weird goings on in a little English village called Deddington. The gruesome death of local girl Charlotte by a rabid monster causes alarm and revulsion - before desperate reporters, crazy detectives and revenge seeking hunters descend on the scene!”
Well I’m sorry synopsis author, "Crying Wolf Ltd", but no wonder your film is shit given your inability to even write a competent synopsis.

So the death of Charlotte and the reporters make up a few minutes at the beginning and end of the movie, while the bulk of this story is a ginormous flashback about a pack of pop-up Halloween store costume wearing werewolves on a fucking camping trip.

WHERE TO INVADE NEXT (review)

$

Review by Sharon Knolle
Produced by Carl Deal, Tia Lessin, Michael Moore
Directed and Narrated by Michael Moore

In Michael Moore's latest film, he “invades” several countries to steal the things they're doing better than America.

Sadly, it's a long list – including ample paid vacation, free college education, and greater equality for women in business and politics – that are far better than in the U.S.

In the first segment, Moore heads to Italy, where he meets a couple who dream of coming to America: Until they learn that there's no such thing as eight weeks paid vacation, like they currently have.

Moore visits the Ducati factory and a garment manufacturer where the CEOs laugh at the idea that they should pay their workers less and increase their own profits.

Then their workers wouldn't be as happy, so what's the point, they ask, completely puzzled at the idea.

Also, (apparently) everyone in Italy takes a leisurely two-hour lunch. We should be so lucky!

As for lunch in France, Moore is astonished to see that the children at what we are told is a typical elementary school are served a multi-course lunch (complete with cheese course) individually, on china plates.

No lunch trays, no sodas and definitely no sloppy joes, fish sticks or french fries. When Moore smuggles in a can of Coke, only one girl will try it: It's that foreign to their daily existence. He shows them photos of typical American school lunches with deep-fried and often unidentifiable entrees and they're horrified.

And so it goes for several countries: Moore finds something they do that's amazing and as you watch, you start to think, “Damn, maybe I should move to Italy or France or Germany.”

THE BIG SHORT (review)

Review by Caitlyn Thompson
Produced by Dede Gardner, Jeremy Kleiner,
Arnon Milchan, Brad Pitt
Screenplay by Adam McKay, Charles Randolph
Based on The Big Short by Michael Lewis
Directed by Adam McKay
Starring Christian Bale, Steve Carell, Ryan Gosling,
Brad Pitt, Melissa Leo, Hamish Linklater, John Magaro,
Rafe Spall, Jeremy Strong, Marisa Tomei, Finn Wittrock,
Stanley Wong, Byron Mann, Tracy Letts, Karen Gillan,
Max Greenfield, Anthony Bourdain, Margot Robbie, Selena Gomez

It’s hard to articulate the complexity of The Big Short and how it’s presented, so I’ll start by saying, this film was simply excellent.

The Big Short follows the discovery of the imminent implosion of the housing market leading to the economic collapse in 2008.

I was curious about directorial choice of Adam McKay—how would the Anchorman director deliver the serious nature of Michael Lewis’ bestselling book?

But with this complicated and somewhat disturbing subject matter, McKay manages to create a simultaneously exhilarating, yet depressing, and occasionally satirical story, featuring the brutality of the fraudulent nature of the big banks and housing market.

The film feels like a derivative of  The Wolf of Wall Street and Too Big to Fail combined. The director’s stylistic approach oscillates between tense and comedic, and that juxtaposition aids in moving the 130-minute movie along at a decent pace.

THE HATEFUL EIGHT (review)

Review by Ben and Elizabeth Robbins
Produced by Richard N. Gladstein,
Shannon McIntosh, Stacey Sher
Written and Directed by Quentin Tarantino
Starring Samuel L. Jackson, Kurt Russell,
Jennifer Jason Leigh, Walton Goggins,
Demián Bichir, Tim Roth, Michael Madsen,
Bruce Dern, James Parks, Channing Tatum

Twenty-three years ago, I took a girl I recently met to see Reservoir Dogs, a little film by a then unknown film maker named Quentin Tarentino.

It was his first film.

It was ours as well.

It was beautiful, it was poetic, it was raw, it was violent. We fell in love.

Now, just short of the quarter century mark Tarantino has made his grand and eighth feature film, The Hateful Eight.

Who would have thought he would come so far and who would have thought we would now be reviewing this film together?

BENN: What do you want to say about this piece of crap?

LIZ: Wait, I thought you liked it?

BENN: I fucking loved it.

LIZ: Oh good. Cuz you better.

BENN:

LIZ: Because I think about 80% of the people out there are going to hate this film.

BENN: Yup. Actually more like 90%

The Hateful Eight takes place just post Civil War and is the story of a bounty hunter named John “The Hangman” Ruth brilliantly portrayed by Kurt Russell as he takes his latest bounty by stage to Red Rock to collect his reward for The evil and sadistic, Daisy Domergue played perfectly by Jennifer Jason Leigh.

Trying to outrun a blizzard they encounter Maj. Marquis Warren (Samuel L. Jackson), a disgraced Northern cavalry officer turned bounty hunter himself, and Chris Mannix (Walton Goggins), the newly appointed Sheriff of Red Rock.  Ruth begrudgingly agrees to take both men, as they race the storm to Millie’s Haberdashery, the only outpost on the road to Red Rock.

There they encounter four mysterious men and a night of treachery, deceit and violence as only can be told by Tarantino.
