Review by Joshua Gravel
Produced by Matt Grady, Melodie Sisk,
Karl Jacob, Greg Newman
Written and Directed by Onur Tukel
Starring Max Casella, Trieste Kelly Dunn,
Jennifer Prediger, Onur Tukel, Dylan Baker

In Applesauce we meet Ron, who has decided to come clean about the worst thing he’s ever done and ends up telling his wife Nikki and their best friends, Kate and husband Les.

Ron explains a series of events which lead him to unintentionally cutting another man’s fingers off when he was in college.

This leads to a chain reaction of the others wanting to know the worst thing each other had done which causes some major strain on the relationships and friendships.

If that were not all, suddenly Ron starts to receive body parts as anonymous gifts, first in the mail then by other means.

With mounting problems at work, in his home life, and stressed friendships, Ron begins to go a little mad as he can’t figure out who is leaving him body parts. And even more disconcerting is that the others around him either don’t care or make little effort to help figure out who is leaving them.

The River Wild: The Return of the Doctor's Wife

Written by Erin Maxwell

Earlier in the week, Doctor Who showrunner Steven Moffat made the announcement that fan favorite Professor River Song (Alex Kingston) will be returning to the series for the annual Christmas special titled "The Husbands of River Song." The event marks the first time the Gallifreyan’s former flame has faced off with the new face of the Doctor, Peter Capaldi.

“It’s River Song back in action and at her best, her funniest and most outrageous” said Moffett. “The most fun thing about the Christmas special is that she doesn’t know it’s him.”

Let’s not forget: River was married to who she believed was the final Doctor. According to Who mythos, a Time Lord can only regenerate twelve times, so counting all the Doc’s (including John Hurt’s War Doctor), that makes for twelve. It’s easy to understand why River would be acting the merry widow.

Hello, sweetie.

How Gaming Saved My Life

$

I've suffered from depression for many years and have tried a great many things to help combat the low moods and irritability that come with it. In my experience, the most cathartic activity I've found is gaming.

Suffice to say I owe gaming a great deal, without games I would be less equipped to cope with my everyday life.

This is part of why I adore video games and why they mean so much to me.  You might be surprised to know that the reason that games help is not only because I enjoy playing them, it's more than that, because as anyone who suffers from depression can tell you, there are stages when you detach yourself from things you love or lose interest in the things you once enjoyed.

That's why I wanted to discuss video games and mental illness, both are part of who I am and many people have misconceived notions about both which I want to highlight.

Firstly, video games are not about sitting on a room on your own, in the dark, eating junk food and mashing buttons.

This dated image, often a male living in his parents basement couldn't be further from the truth but the stigma still exists and it's perpetuated by overly concerned parents and the media who often like to demonise games.

Many parents have accused gaming of making their children despondent and disinterested (singular things that a part of a whole spectrum of symptoms but [ but let's be honest here, when you're a teenager you really couldn't care less about what adults think and are disinterested in anything they have to say, especially if that adult happened to be your mum or dad. If your teenager wants to spend time with you, that's when you should be worrying.

Sometimes of course, there are days when sitting on your own in a darkened room and slobbing out while you play the latest first person shooter is entirely necessary, I certainly can attest to that, but generally speaking, games aren't really like that these days. There is quite literally something for everyone, plus there's more competition now than ever, so making your game stand out is paramount. the sheer scale and variety of games is overwhelming!

Thus, the archaic view of games and what it is to be a gamer needs to shift, the industry might be fast-growing but the view of it is slower than the dark ages of dial-up internet (I would apologise to younger readers but you know what? It's the Internet, work it out or Google it or whatever it is you kids do for information these days).

GOTHAM: Season 2 Rise of The Villains: Second Look

I’ve been putting this off. Gotham’s mid-season finale has come and gone and you probably haven’t given it a second thought since. No, you’re now all watching It’s a Very Murray Christmas or posting tributes to the late Scott Weiland.

Or maybe that’s just me.

The truth of the matter is, I don’t watch Gotham anymore for mild entertainment. I do so out of obligation. Everyone who knows me knows that I’m a Batman fan. So if they tune in to Gotham and it comes up, they want to know what I think. So I should have an opinion, right? Well here it is:

Gotham is better this season than the last.

But that doesn’t make it essential viewing.

3 Things I’ve Learned From My Vintage Sears Catalogs

I recently picked up about 20 vintage Sears Catalogs from an estate sale. The earliest one in the collection is from 1975, the latest from 1992. I found them tucked in the corner of the basement, neatly stored in a giant Rubbermaid container and managed to purchase the lot for a whopping $5.

If you’re too young to understand the significance of the Sears Catalog, think Amazon.com and everything you can buy there. Now, imagine printing out every page on Amazon, binding that into a book and mailing it out to America.

That was the Sear Catalog.

These last few weeks, I’ve gotten actual joy from just sitting down and thumbing through the pages of these things. It’s like looking through a window to another place and time. The people, the fashions, the wants and desires of another time-- it’s almost magical.

It’s also an education. I’ve learned a lot since I’ve started going page by page through my Sears Catalog collection. Things like…

The Road To Episode VII: STAR WARS #13, ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW & THE PERFECT WEAPON

$

It’s so exciting that we live in a world where we’re under two weeks away until a brand new Star Wars movie is released. News items such as BB-8 and R2-D2 gracing the cover of Time magazine, more TV spots (please stop these) and China noticeably shrinking John Boyega on their version of the official theatrical poster has dominated the news cycle in a galaxy far, far away.

Another piece of business that has stirred up the Star Wars faithful once again is the debate over who shot first. In a recent interview with The Washington Post, George Lucas unequivocally states that Greedo, not Han Solo, shot first. This stings because it’s the creator of the franchise bringing a sense of finality to a heavily debated topic that’s soured many fans.

I understand why Lucas decided to make this infamous change when the Special Edition films were released in 1997. Han acting in self-defense instead of murdering someone in cold blood makes him more of a hero. Personally, I didn’t notice the change until I read about the fan backlash online years later. During my very first viewing of the movie, six year old me thought Han was incredibly smart for gunning down Greedo because it was obvious that he was about to be either captured or killed.

This week’s journey brings about a look at the next chapter of the comic book crossover event along with a review of a collection that aims to divulge anything and everything about Star Wars. Then we’re introduced to a new character from The Force Awakens who is relatively unknown, but packs quite the punch, kick, choke and everything else that inflicts bodily harm.

It’s time to refuel your X-Wing fighter, and blast through that Death Star trench as we are at the home stretch on The Road to Episode VII.

James Taylor Has Seen A Lot of History

$

James Taylor is an icon.

The original "JT" is a bona fide, legitimate, genuine, one-hundred percent legend.

James Taylor's Accomplishments
With a career that began in the mid-1960s, Taylor has sold more than 100 million records.  That's an amazing feat considering he's only sent one album and one single to the top of the charts.

In 2000, Taylor was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.  He's also a member of The Songwriter's Hall of Game, the North Carolina Music Hall of Fame, and the Hit Parade Hall of Fame.

His 1976 Greatest Hits album has been certified Diamond by the RIAA.  Diamond certificates are awarded to albums that sell more than ten million copies.  Taylor's Greatest Hits has actually sold in excess of 12 million units.

Taylor has won five Grammy Awards, the Presidential Medal of Freedom, and an Emmy.  He's received two honorary doctorates and Rolling Stone magazine named him the 84th greatest artist of all-time.

Taylor has sung The Star-Spangled Banner at the World Series and the NBA Finals.  He's appeared on Saturday Night Live, The Simpsons, Sesame Street, and The West Wing.  He was also the musical guest on Leno's "first" final The Tonight Show on May 29, 2009.

Taylor has delighted fans for nearly fifty years with hit songs like "Fire and Rain", "You've Got a Friend","Handy Man" and "Your Smiling Face."

Those impressive accolades fail to convey Taylor's amazing talents.  Just attend a James Taylor concert and you'll realize that his voice sounds better live then it does on his recordings.

Even more impressive, Taylor has managed to achieve all of the above despite throat surgery, clinical depression (he was institutionalized and missed being drafted during the Vietnam War due to a "psychological rejection"), two heroin addictions, the tragic death of his brother, and two-failed marriages.
