This December, it’s all about Christmas.
Christmas miracles, Christmas joy, Christmas presents...and what better way to celebrate the holiday than with terrible animated specials and awful, second-rate movies featuring kids with magical powers.
But don’t fret!
Black Mirror is back! So yay!
DECEMBER 1
30 for 30: Chasing Tyson (2015)From ESPN Films, a look at the legendary Evander Holyfield v. Mike Tyson fight that pitted titan against titan.
A Christmas Star (2015)‘Tis the season for saccharine sweet Yuletide Xmas movies. In this one, a little girl tries to use magic to save her village, stuff happens, and then...CHRISTMAS!
A Genius Leaves the Hood: The Unauthorized Story of Jay Z (2014)A docu that looks at every deal gone bad, sour relationship and clash over cash Mr. Carter has made over the years. An interesting look at the savvy music mogul.
Amnesiac (2015)The only positive note about Michael Polish’s latest drama is that is gave scores of critics the ability to deem the pic with a single word review: “Forgettable.”
Broadchurch (Season 2)In case you are going through
Jessica Jones withdrawals, the double dose of David Tennant will help you through the shakes. The former Whovian returns as the OCD small town detective as the close-knit community deals with the fallout from the events of season one.
CBGB (2013)Basically, take every hard edge of the punk rock scene that came out of the puke and urine filled alley ways of New York in the ‘70s and soften the edges to try to make a relatable movie out of it.
Christmas Wedding Baby (2014)A Tyler Perry-esque pic that shoehorned a Christmas theme. Three sister are looking for love, stuff happens, and then...CHRISTMAS!
The Chronicles of Riddick: Dark Fury (2004)An animated prequel that pits Riddick against another bounty hunter, stuff happens, and then...CHRISTMAS!
Cradle 2 the Grave (2003)Jewel thief DMX and Taiwanese agent Jet Li team up after the rapper’s daughter is taken hostage.
Darkman (1990)Before he acquired a very particular set of skills, Liam Neeson struck terror in the hearts of crime bosses and thugs as Darkman. Super fun action pic that continue the long tradition of never fully explaining Neeson’s accent.
Jenny's Wedding (2015)(AKA: Izzie Marries Rory) Katherine Heigl is about to take the plunge and marry Alexis Bledel, but will her family accept her?
Ray (2004)Jamie Foxx won an Oscar for playing Ray Charles in this Taylor Hackford biopic.
Real Rob (Season 1) (2015)Rob Schneider takes a break for cameos in Adam Sandler pics for this new series about his life in Hollywood.
See You In Valhalla (2015)Modern Family’s Sarah Hyland stars in a quirky family drama about a woman who returns home after the death of her brother to face her strange siblings, her even stranger father, an ex and a few ghosts from her past.
Sensitive Skin (Season 1) (2014)Kim Cattrall stars in the Canadian remake of the UK black comedy (originally starring the legendary Joanne Lumley) about love, sex and relationships in the golden years.
Stir of Echoes (1999)Kevin Bacon is haunted by psychic visions of a murdered girl after he is hypnotized by his sister-in-law.
Stir of Echoes: The Homecoming (2007)See above, but this time with Rob Lowe as a former soldier who has returned home with a few ghosts from the battlefield.
That Touch of Mink (1962)Adorable romantic comedy Cary Grant and Doris Day about a millionaire who attempts to woe a New York City career woman after they meet-cute on the street one day. Throw in baseball legends Yogi Berra and Mickey Mantle for good measure.
This movie is exactly why bon-bons and house slippers were invented.
Tyke: Elephant OutlawIn 1994, Tyke the Elephant escapes the confines of his circus and wrecks havoc in Honolulu. What followed was a three-ring media circus debating the use and treatment of performing animals. Pic won best documentary at Portland Film Festival.
