Written by Joshua Gravel
Produced by Sital Sal, Jesse R. Tendler
Written and Directed by David Spaltro
Starring Grace Folsom, Lynn Justinger,
Fiona Horrigan, Catherine Cobb Ryan

A medical student interviews a paranormal investigator for a thesis and is lucky enough to join the investigator as she investigates a possible haunting.

What the two first suspect to be a hoax soon reveals itself to be a serious case of demonic possession and the pair realize that if they don’t help the victim then they too will be targeted by the demon.

Director David Spaltro has crafted a solid indie possession flick with a few good scares and lots of creepy atmosphere.

The acting is handled well all around and while the script brings nothing new to the subgenre it uses a mix of references, inspirations, and homage’s to possession and haunting films of the past.

A loving tribute to the gory and gruesome erotic horror of classic Italian giallo cinema, The Editor spins the twisted tale of a once-prolific film editor who becomes the prime suspect in a series of murders haunting a seedy 1970s film studio. Directed and produced by Adam Brooks and Matthew Kennedy, this stylish horror comedy became a festival darling after its world premiere at the 2014 Toronto International Film Festival, going on to earn audience and critical acclaim at festivals across North America including the San Francisco International Film Festival and the Fantasia Film Festival.

Rey Ciso (Adam Brooks) was once the greatest editor the world had ever seen. Since a horrific accident left him with four wooden fingers on his right hand, he’s had to resort to cutting pulp films and trash pictures. When the lead actors from the film he’s been editing turn up murdered at the studio, Rey is fingered as the number one suspect. The bodies continue to pile up in this absurdist giallo-thriller as Rey struggles to prove his innocence and learn the sinister truth lurking behind the scenes.

When Hulk Hogan Made Those Racist Comments....My Thoughts

By Atlee Greene

On April 1, 1990, I cried profusely as my hero, Hulk Hogan, lost the WWF title to the Ultimate Warrior at WrestleMania 6.

Now that the cold hard sting of reality has reared its ugly head again, I realize that I was the victim of a 25 year April Fool’s joke.

I would give anything to hop into Doc Brown’s DeLorean and travel back in time to that now tainted evening.

I’d sit next to my eight-year-old self on the couch, look him right in his watery eyes and give him a big hug while trying to convince him that the red and yellow man on the TV screen isn’t worth our tears.

Late last week, Hulk Hogan was fired from WWE after The National Enquirer and Radar Online released a transcript of racist comments made by Hogan on the sex tape that he is currently suing Gawker Media over.

Hogan repeatedly used the N-Word, called to racial stereotypes as fact, and admitted that he is a racist.

A Midsummer’s Movie Night Catch-Up

The month of June started off with a reunion of the co-star and director of Bridesmaids and The Heat. Melissa McCarthy and Paul Feig’s action/comedy Spy reportedly hits all the right buttons, showcases the bawdy McCarthy in her meatiest (no pun intended) role yet, and is said to be extremely vulgar and bloody. Sounds like crass and anarchistic grown-up fun.

Alas, some of us can no longer get to the cinema every week, and some movies don’t cry out to be viewed on a giant screen, so I let this one slip by. I look forward to catching up with it on home video.

The world shook on June 12 with the long-in-development arrival of the fourth Jurassic Park flick, Jurassic World. Dynamic visual effects, a colorful production design, and the most convincing 3D conversion in a long while helped propel this merely “meh” retread into the stratosphere.

That, plus fourteen years of pent-up audience demand for more dino-carnage.

Interview conducted by Sharon Knolle

If you ever played with LEGO bricks (and who didn't?) you have to see A LEGO Brickumentary, a loving and surprisingly moving tribute to the eternally popular toy bricks. The documentary, which is produced by LEGO, grants unprecedented access to the company and its master builders, but also follows the diehard fans (AFOLs, Adult Fans of LEGO), celebrity devotees, and every innovative way LEGO bricks can be used by kids, artists, filmmakers, architects or scientists.

Who knew where was so much to LEGO bricks? The film takes us back to their creation in Denmark in 1949 to the company's near bankruptcy and its spectacular fan-driven reemergence. We also go on set of The LEGO Movie as master builders assemble the huge LEGO city for the live-action sequence.

Forces of Geek met up with co-directors Daniel Junge and Kief Davidson in Los Angeles, where they discussed LEGO and some of its more controversial aspects.

The best show Netflix has produced isn’t House of Cards or Orange is the New Black— it’s BoJack Horseman. The second season was recently released and has established itself as one of the wittiest and insightful comedies out there now, right up there with Inside Amy Schumer.

Some quick background: The show is satire of Hollywood and celebrity culture that is unrelenting in attacking the vapidness of TV entertainment. It follows the exploits of BoJack Horseman, a washed-up, self-loathing 1980s sitcom star whose struggling to rebuild his career.

What makes Bojack unique is it assumes that viewers are broad consumers of popular culture. Jokes are shot out at rapid fire; time isn’t wasted with lots of exposition to make sure you get the punchlines.

THE MANITOU... Or, How Many Genres Can We Fit Into One Bad Horror Film

$

By Generoso Fierro

The original tagline for 1978’s The Manitou went something like this…Evil Does Not Die…It Waits To Be Re-born. But I’m thinking….

“The new film from the director of the Jaws ripoff, Grizzly, comes a horror, space odyssey, Native American, love story kind of thing with Tony Curtis.”

Karen Tandy (Susan Strasberg) has something or someone growing in her neck and it’s up to a team of doctors, her carny fortune telling lover/friend (Tony Curtis) and shaman, Johnny Singing Rock (Michael Ansara) to save her!

Still swimming in the wake of The Exorcist, which unfortunately was responsible for an endless sea of Satanic-possession horror film clones from The Omen onward, is The Manitou an almost inconceivably bad film that attempts to cash in on so many popular 1970s film genres at once, you begin to lose track about midway through the plot.

Try and follow me on this one.
