All-New DC Universe Original Movie from Bruce Timm

Experience the Twisted Side of Your Favorite Heroes

Warner Bros. Home Entertainment, Warner Bros Animation and DC Entertainment present an all-new animated feature film from renowned producer and animator Bruce Timm,Justice League: Gods & Monsters, on July 28, 2015. The title will also include never-before-seen bonus content and will be available on Blu-Ray™ Deluxe Edition, Blu-Ray™ Combo Pack, DVD and Digital HD.

This is not your parents’ Justice League! These heroes are not the renowned saviors of the world – they’re more likely Earth’s despotic rulers. Witness the divergent reality where the Justice League protects the planet – but answers to no one but themselves. Employing methods of intimidation and fear, this Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman deal brute force in the name of justice. In this alternate universe, Superman was not raised by the Kents in Smallville, the Caped Crusader is not Bruce Wayne, and Wonder Woman is not an Amazon warrior of Themyscira. When a group of famed scientists experience untimely “accidents,” a government task force follows the trail of clues to the Justice League, but is there a more powerful player operating from the shadows? It’s a high stakes game of intrigue, mystery and action that asks the question: How do you serve justice to those above the law?

Double Feature Movie Show: DOUBLE SHOT OF DOUBLES

A few weeks ago, Furious 7 was released. I’m not sure when this series started getting so much respect, but whatever. That’s not what I’m here to talk about.

I’m here more to talk about Paul Walker and the fact that they had to finish this movie after he was tragically killed in a car wreck before his scenes were finished. I didn’t like the series, but I’ve always liked Paul.

He was a decent actor and, by all accounts, a decent human being; Hollywood needs more of those.

It got me thinking about other films that had to be finished after the lead actors’ lives were cut short.

These two work pretty well together because they were completed in pretty creative ways and the finished product was successful, at least from an artistic standpoint.

Fandom At Sea: A Look At Themed Cruises

Cruises are not just for octogenarians anymore.

Well, that’s a lie. They totally are.

But now you can add to the excitement of all-you-can-eat buffets and shuffleboard with KISS! Or vampires! Or Richard Simmons!

Themed cruises have moved beyond the single sect, swingers and people who are looking for love in Bermuda shorts. You can now see all your favorite bands (from 15 years ago), celebrities from your favorite shows (also from 15 years ago) or venture off to distant lands with people dressed as Lestat.

According to Theme Cruise Finder, there are over 500 cruises that will cater to your fandom.

These themed-cruise packages usually include a few stops in exotic locales, chances to meet your crushes up close and personal (and heavily guarded), a chance to mingle with other fans over unlimited shrimp and, of course, picture opportunities galore.

Take a voyage to exotic locations while you hobnob with like-minded fans and celebrities looking to buy a beach house with the money you paid. Eat with cast members of your favorite show or movie while employees remind you again and again not to touch the talent. Take awkward pictures featuring stars using the “hover hand” technique on you, making sure not to make any actual contact.

Here is just a small sampling of a few upcoming voyages:

Sequart Organization is going sci-fi in a BIG way!

With the success of last year’s analysis of Star Trek’s entire comics history, Sequart is proud to announce that work has commenced on three Star Wars books and two POTA books.

Over the next three years, Sequart will release essay anthologies analyzing all aspects of the Star Wars mythos:

First up will be 2015’s A Long Time Ago: Exploring the Star Wars Cinematic Universe

Not actual book art

Edited by Rich Handley and Joseph F. Berenato, this book will examine the entire big-/small-screen saga that is Star Wars. From theatrical films to TV movies, from cartoons and commercials to variety shows and video-based amusement-park rides, the mythos continues to keep audiences glued to their seats. This anthology features insightful, analytic essays about the franchise’s long history from popular film historians, novelists, bloggers, and subject-matter experts, exploring why the films proved so immediately popular, where the movies and TV shows have succeeded and faltered, and why we all keep going back for more.

Happy Anniversary LOONEY TUNES! Win a T-Shirt Prize Pack!

Yesterday marked the 85th Anniversary of Looney Tunes.

Developed in 1929 to compete with Disney, Warner Bros. debuted the first Looney Tunes short - "Sinkin' in the Bathtub" - April 19, 1930. Long before Bugs Bunny became the most recognized Warner Bros' animated character, Bosko and Buddy ruled the roost before the more well-known Porky Pig came along in 1935.

Over the years, Looney Tunes became more than a line of cartoons.  They truly became a part of our culture.  Just through catchphrases alone, the monumental influence of these characters in pop culture is immeasurable.

  • "Eh, what's up, Doc?"
  • "You're dethpicable.""What a maroon!"
  • "Shh. Be vewy vewy quiet. I'm hunting wabbits! Huh-huh-huh-huh!"
  • "Great horny toads!"
  • "Thuffering thuccotash!"
  • "I say, I say..."
  • "I tawt I taw a puddy-tat!"
  • "Of course you realize, this means war."
  • "Vive l'amour!"
  • "Gee, ain't I a stinker?"
  • “Meep! Meep!”
  • "Gruesome, ain't it?"
  • "What's all the hubbub, bub?"
  • ”Arriba! Arriba! Andale! Andale!”
  • “Why you wascawwy wabbit!”
  • ”I did! I did taw a puddy-tat!"
  • "I am Wile E. Ki-oh-tay, super genius."
  • "Say your prayers, Varmint!"
  • "Boy's about as sharp as a bowling ball."
  • "I knew I shoulda taken that left turn at Albakoykee."
  • "Th-th-th-that's all, folks!"

To celebrate 85 years of Looney magic we've teamed up with our friends at TV Store Online to give away a t-shirt prize pack to a Forces of Geek reader!

THE FORCE RE-AWAKENS, or Why I'm Willing To Give STAR WARS Another Chance

“Chewie, we’re home”

Three words…just three words. By themselves they mean virtually nothing, but together, well, it brought a generation to tears. And we weren’t ready for it, not in the least. We had been so disappointed by everything that came before the words.

And why wouldn’t we?

We were the ones who had sat in the theater as kids and were paralyzed from awe by what we saw on screen. We slept in a bed covered in Death Stars and Darth Vaders and Luke Skywalkers and Princess Leias and…well, you get the idea. Every sequel that came after that brought us closer to nirvana until…

You know.

Convergence #2
Writer: Jeff King
Artist: Carlo Pagulayan, Jason Paz
Colorist: John Starr, Peter Steigerwald
Publisher: DC Comics
Price: $3.99

So far, Convergence has been either hit or miss, depending on what tickles your fancy.

It’s not just enough that various worlds in different universes are being forced into battle with one another. The humanoid known as Telos is pulling heroes from different time periods within a particular world, such as the leather jacket wearing Superboy, who was introduced in the Death of Superman, finds himself fighting Kingdom Come’s version of the Man of Steel.

Earth 2’s Dick Grayson is the narrator of events that leads to the heroes of his world battling Telos.

Jeff King was able to make this feel as if you were watching everything unfold from a personal perspective, which made me appreciate everything more.

The cover of the book really says it all as Thomas and Wayne meet face-to-face and it was done with the right amount of emotion…meaning that not too much was shown, but it spoke volumes considering we are talking about two different versions of The Dark Knight.

The artwork is at its best during the action scenes. There is still a lot we don’t know about Telos, so it was fun to see Earth 2’s Superman, Flash, and Green Lantern knock him down with what looks like the knockout punch, only for Telos to rise and create a gloomy situation. When the two versions of Batman met face-to-face, for a reason I can’t understand, the Bat symbol on Bruce’s costume kept changing from the classic circular insignia with the yellow background to what he wears presently in the New 52.

The endless amount of possibilities surrounding Convergence is the selling point of this series, and it’s fitting to present such a storyline before the DC Universe reboots, yet again. However, some of these multiverse dream fights are done without substance which makes for a hollow experience.

While I still have no idea where the overall story is heading, the sophomore release of Convergence gives readers a fair amount of meat on the bone with little fat to cut around.

Score: 3 out of 5

Dynamite Entertainment is proud to announce the upcoming July release of Bob's Burgers #1, the first issue in an ongoing series that presents all-new adventures and antics of the Belcher Family, the beloved cast of the popular FOX animated comedy series. Building upon the success of their five-issue 2014 miniseries, Dynamite and partner Twentieth Century Fox Consumer Products welcome a creative team assembled from the actual television show producers and animators to deliver the engaging Belcher Family fun that millions of fans adore.

"Bringing Bob's Burgers to the comic book medium is a lot of fun, because it allows us to tell stories that we wouldn't normally do on the TV show and it allows our artists to illustrate them in equally unique styles," says Mike Olsen, one of the contributing writers for the Bob's Burgers comic book series.

Loren Bouchard, the creator of Bob's Burgers, says, "We want the comic to appeal to fans of the show, and to that end, we strive to protect the tone, the heart, and most importantly, the characters, just as fiercely as we do when we're working on the TV show. If you enjoy the show and you don't enjoy the comic book, then we owe you a comic book, or at least an apology."

Oldboy’s CHOI Min-Sik Leads 12 Ships against a Fleet of 330 in Gripping Hour Long Battle Sequence

Highest Grossing Korean Language Film Ever Released in North America

South Korea’s thrilling war epic, The Admiral: Roaring Currents, starring international film star CHOI Min-sik (Oldboy, Lucy), will be released on DVD and Blu-ray on April 28, 2015. This stirring naval drama, which chronicles the real-life battle of Myeong-Nyang, includes a gripping, critically acclaimed hour long sea battle sequence.

The Admiral is the brutal retelling of the battle of Myeong-Nyang, the legendary naval conflict that occurred during the Japanese invasion of Korea in 1597. On the 16th of September in 1597, Admiral Yi Sun-shin (CHOI Min-sik) was left with only 12 battleships to face an insurmountable fleet of 330 Japanese battleships. This battle and its result is the most well-known conflict in Korean history, as the Japanese military relentlessly charged towards the capital and the nation faced the possibility of losing the war.

Last summer, theater-goers took notice of The Admiral’s high-octane brand of military action when during its theatrical run it became the highest grossing Korean language film ever released in North America. In addition to its strong box office showing in North America, The Admiral made $127 million in ticket sales in South Korea, making it the most watched film in South Korean film history.

TiVo versus Time-Warner DVR!

I've had TiVo since... at least before Lost premiered.

Even when times are tough, I've been reluctant to give it up since I love the usability and there are still so many things I recorded that I haven't watched yet.

Recently I began having trouble getting certain channels and, long story short, ended up with a cable box/DVR from Time Warner.

Now I can use both again but, despite some advantages of having a cable-company DVR, I still prefer my TiVo.

Here's how they compare.

You can imagine my reaction when I found out I'd be directing a video for the song NIGHT on John Carpenter's new album LOST THEMES.  It was pretty much a fanboy freakout for me.  His art helped sculpt my sensibilities.  His no-nonsense approach is both something to inspire to and something to be intimidated by.

We created a dark, digital feeling world taking place on the road. Hopefully this was a micro-universe that was faithful to the wonderful track of music we were presented with.

Here is the video and some exclusive images from the production you won't see anywhere else!

As always, several plot lines are juggled. The hunt for the Ogre continues as Gordon makes it his mission to track the serial killer down with Bullock in tow.

Bruce enlists Selina's help to dig deeper into his company's corrupt board of directors, while also dealing with the aftermath of watching her murder someone in cold blood at the end of the last episode.

Meanwhile, Oswald's rivalry with Boss Maroni gets personal after his mother gets pulled into his after hours business.

Edward also takes his love of a co-worker to the next level, in a somewhat predictable way.

Was ‘BETTER CALL SAUL’ Really Necessary?

$

Better Call Saul was certainly one of the most anticipated shows this year — unlike most other new shows it premiered with huge numbers.

And I was among those eagerly awaiting it since it was first announced.  But now that the first season is behind us my enthusiasm for it has largely waned.

The entire season felt like a prequel for a prequel, where the salient details of what happened could have been compressed into several flashback scenes in future seasons.

And much of the season felt like tease — would this be the moment when Jimmy McGill becomes Saul Goodman?

No, this isn’t it.

And it’s not that either.

Oh, and also not that.

At first I thought it was brilliant that show creators Peter Gould and Vince Gilligan put McGill in a situation with the Mexican gangster Tuco in the first two episodes that would appear the incident that springboards his career as a crooked attorney, but then McGill does the right thing.

It was all a red herring.

By Elizabeth Weitz

I've been feeling kind of rebellious lately, sort of, well, willing to throw caution to the wind and set fire to the entire world just to watch it burn. Oh, it's nothing to be worried about, I don't really intend on doing something super dramatic, I'll probably just dye my hair purple, pull out my 25 year-old Dr. Martens, boot up some L7 Bricks Are Heavy (circa 1992) and maybe ignore the housework for a week (that'll really show the man).

Or, better yet, I could spend the day on the couch binge-watching a bunch of great Punk Rock Chick flicks that'll give me a vicarious thrill of bringing down the establishment without all the hassle of putting on pants.

Yeah, that sounds more like my speed.

After the break are my top 5 picks that are guaranteed to get your fist in the air
