'JOHN WICK' Directors Reveal Sequel In Development

Written by Christopher M.

During an interview with Movies.com, co-directors Chad Stahelski and David Leitch of the action-packed breakout flick John Wick revealed a sequel is already in development.

“We’re in development right now,” Stahelski told us. They didn’t go into any specifics on story or if Reeves would return, though Stahelski did hint, “If we could work with Keanu Reeves for 10 movies you’d have a really cool career.”
“We have ideas for days and without blinking twice we know we can outdo the action from the original,” Stahelski said. “It’s the matter of story and how much you like the character. That’s always the most important. If there’s great action but you have a character that no one likes and doesn’t have charisma you’re not going to watch it. Look at any great action star, whether it’s Harrison Ford or Liam Neeson or Robert Downey Jr., pick a name, you love the guy first. Good action, bad action, you just love them in action. So we want to make sure we have a story and a character that everybody loves and then we’ll dress it with action that we promise will be awesome.”

This could make for a worthwhile franchise when the R-rated action genre is really struggling to find audiences.

ENJOY YOUR INTERMISSION: The Story of a Little Drive-In With a Lot of Heart

By Elizabeth Weitz

The Hi-Way Drive-in is a 4-screen movie theater located between Catskill and Coxsackie, NY (about 2 hours from NYC) that has been in business for more than 40 years. Those are the facts, but what cannot be explained in simple text is the passion that it takes to run a business that lives only for the Summer nights when the air is thick and the moon has to compete with the beams of light emerging from the lens of projectors.

Nor can you say in words the magic (and yes, it takes a magician) to make a Drive-In stand the test of time.

Roger Babcock, is that kind of magician.

His story is after the break and, if you have ever sat in the back of a flat-bed truck on piles of blankets and pillows watching movies in the dark surrounded by the chirping of crickets, then you might need a box of tissues...there's going to be some serious nostalgia leaking from your eyeballs.

From the cold open to a young Dottie in ‘Russia, 1937’ to an appearance from Dum-Dum Dugan (Neal McDonough) and his The Howling Commandos, Marvel’s latest Agent Carter is something Jack Kirby himself would be proud of.

Ramping up the action, our strong leading lady Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell) is entrusted with her first mission — but will our cover girl have her cover blown by the arrogant (and over-the-top sexist) Agent Jack Thompson (Chad Michael Murray) or Agent Souza (Enver Gjokaj)?

COMES TO THEATERS AND DIGITAL APRIL 10, 2015
North American Premiere at SXSW Film Festival

Warner Bros. Pictures has announced that Ryan Gosling’s directorial debut film, “Lost River,” will open April 10 for a theatrical run in New York and Los Angeles and will also be available same day via national digital release in the U.S. This news comes the same day as the announcement of the film’s North American premiere being part of the SXSW Film Festival, running March 13 – 21 in Austin Texas. The announcement was made today by Sue Kroll, President of Worldwide Marketing and International Distribution, and Dan Fellman, President, Domestic Distribution, Warner Bros. Pictures.

“Ryan is one of the most exciting actors of his generation and ‘Lost River’ reveals that he is also one of its most promising young directors,” said Kroll. “His debut film is a singular vision of stranded people finding connection in a broken world. We believe in this film and in Ryan as a director, and are delighted to be working with him in this new role. This is a great opportunity to give audiences the chance to discover this compelling, original work for themselves.”

Added Fellman, “By capitalizing on the growing variety of film release opportunities, we can better target the right audience and give ‘Lost River’ a bigger and more focused voice than it would have if we put it exclusively in theaters. We are excited to see the result.”

“I am excited that 'Lost River' is being released by Warner Bros. and having its North American premiere at SXSW,” said Gosling. ”It’s a small specialty film, so for me, this day-and-date theatrical and digital release plan provides the best of both worlds. It allows those who are interested in seeing my film in a theatre to do so without excluding the majority of people who don’t have access to a specialty cinema. VOD is giving a new life to independent cinema and I’m very excited to have the opportunity to showcase the wonderful work of my cast and crew on such a broad platform.”

“Lost River” is a dark fairy tale about love, family and the fight for survival in the face of danger. In the virtually abandoned city of Lost River, Billy (Christina Hendricks), a single mother of two, is led into a macabre underworld in her quest to save her childhood home and hold her family together. Her teenage son Bones (Iain De Casestecker) discovers a mystery about the origins of Lost River that triggers his curiosity and sets into motion an unexpected journey that will test his limits and the limits of those he loves.

Neill Blomkamp's 'ALIEN' Film Inspired By ALIENS: COLONIAL MARINES Expansion Mission?

$

Written by Christopher M

A couple of months ago Neill Blomkamp starting posting concept artwork for an Alien movie project on his Instagram and Twitter accounts. The project using the working title of Alien: Xenomorph and was completely under the radar of the people at 20th Century Fox, who would end-up greenlighting such a film.

The premise being this film would take place sometime after Aliens, I assume with the aged-up cast returning to their roles and ignoring that the two previous films ever happened.

Something that is already going on at Paramount with their Terminator franchise as Terminator Genisys coming this summer is a reboot of sorts. That film is systematically pretending that the last two films aren't canon and is seeming going back to 1984 (other time periods as well). If Arnold's coming back they might as well do the same for Ripley.

Alien Resurrection didn't really leave much room for this to be an option for Alien 5 unless Hicks is still alive somehow. They'd have to do a lot of explaining to bring Hicks back in that timeline.

Rebooting the franchise entirely has always been a taboo subject at the studio, even though fans assumed that Prometheus was going to be exactly that. Of course, if they had followed the production process they would know the film was always going to focus on the origins of the Space Jockey aka the Engineers.

Now let's consider where Blomkamp got this idea to bring back Dwayne Hicks and the derelict ship.

'ROBOTECH' Live-Action Movie Brought Back From The Dead By Warner Bros.

Written by Christopher M

Deadline is reporting that Warner Bros. is resurrecting the live-action Robotech film with 300 screenwriter Michael Gordon set to pen a new script. The project is based on the widely beloved anime series which has been circling Hollywood for ages.

It's possible that the renewed interest could stem from a mix of the success of Pacific Rim, which has since moved to Universal after Legendary Pictures and Warner Bros. splitting-up.

Along with the largely positive reaction to Edge of Tomorrow which is also adapted from Japanese sci-fi source material. I'm curious if they'll put the amount of effort into the project as they did with Edge.

Not to mention Fox's amping-up the huge sci-fi genre with James Cameron's Avatar sequels that could feed the demand for more of these types of films to be made.

I've been hearing about a Robotech movie as long as I've been blogging which is almost a decade and this might be more of the same since every couple of years there's a new creative team announced. The team never getting too far and each time would go back into limbo.

Writers Akiva Goldsman (I Am Legend, A Beautiful Mind) and Lawarence Kasdan (Raiders of The Lost Ark, Empire Strikes Back, Force Awakens) trying to develop the film previously without anything to show for it.

I'll be trying my best to keep optimistic about this new development but we've been down this road many times before.

There's a bit of hope on my part to see Warner Bros. possibly turning these anime/manga films into one single cinematic universe which could include Edge, Robotech and even Akira.

Of course, certain things would need to be tweaked to allow this to happen but might give the studio a strong reason to keep the Japanese roots to something like Akira instead of Americanizing it and whitewashing it's casting.

FEATURING DEBUT OF IMPACT COMICS, RETURN OF THE NEW CRUSADERS

Dark Circle Comics – the genre-defying super hero imprint of Archie Comics – unveiled the first phase of a proactive digital rollout featuring many acclaimed titles starring key Dark Circle characters. The books - available digitally for the first time – include the hard-to-find Impact Comics titles and the best-selling Red Circle Comics books from the 1980s.

The expanded digital offerings will also herald the return of THE NEW CRUSADERS in a new one-shot reuniting the fan-favorite reimagining of the classic Dark Circle heroes. These classic titles, along with the new series coming from Dark Circle Comics including THE BLACK HOOD, THE FOX, and THE SHIELD, will be available through all of Archie’s major digital partners, including iVerse, ComiXology, Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Google and more.

Launching in the early 1990s, the Impact Comics imprint featured classic Red Circle characters such as The Black Hood, The Comet, The Shield, and included work by comic book luminaries such as Mark Waid, Tom Lyle, Mark Wheatley and more. THE BLACK HOOD was taken in exciting new directions by focusing on several different incarnations of the classic character under the guide of writer Mark Wheatley and Eisner-award winning artist Rick Burchett.

The 1980s Red Circle relaunch featured the classic characters getting a modern update foreshadowing the Dark Circle Comics relaunch in 2015. THE ORIGINAL SHIELD told new tales of Joe Higgins, an FBI agent with a secret identity as America’s fighting champion of justice. Selections from both Red Circle and Impact comics are available now digitally with more issues to be added periodically.

Launched in 2012 by fan favorite creators Ian Flynn and Ben Bates, The New Crusaders were a group of mostly teenage superheroes who teamed together to protect Impact City from threats such as The Brain Emperor and The Eraser. The New Crusaders will make their much-anticipated return in a digital exclusive NEW CRUSADERS - DARK TOMORROW SPECIAL. This digital-only one-shot picks up from the events of the NEW CRUSADERS – RISE OF THE HEROES series and moves the characters forward into the world of Dark Circle. Readers who are excited for more NEW CRUSADERS stories won’t want to miss this digital special!

These past few years have been interesting for Christianity.

As more disdain for the Church gathers with the protests against many socio-political topics such as contraception, abortion, and same-sex marriage by evangelicals, criticisms of Christianity meander further and further away from the core beliefs and the actual practice of the faith and focus more on the non-representative actions of its on Earth institutions.

Consequently, today’s general public is the fastest in history to critique Christianity (and most religions in general), creating a more than ever engaged audience for cultural works which pick apart religions.

Today, with a more exposing media, we are more acutely aware of the foibles of religious institutions, and given instantaneous and free electronic resources, we can read more about the foundations and the scriptures of religion side by side with how they have been misinterpreted.

With this combined, parallel knowledge from a vast array of resources, we can make more astute observations on religion and draw more insights on concepts of faith in society.

EMPIRE: On Watching The Soap Opera With Hip-Hop Flavor

Money, power, glory, sex, sin, family, secrets, intrigue, melodrama and music. Mix them together, with a dash of messy black realness, and Empire has caught me.

There was no way I thought I’d enjoy Empire as much as I am.

Sure, if you tell me the principals from Hustle & Flow– actors Terrence Howard and Taraji P. Henson – would pair up with Lee Daniels, the man behind batshit projects such as Shadowboxer and Precious, there’s no way I wouldn’t check that out.

Plus, just for blerdy bona fides, I had to show at least some passing interest in another primetime network TV show with black faces heading the cast. Especially if that show doesn’t have Shonda Rhimes involved, as her stuff is ratings gold and wouldn’t need my help.

But a music drama? About hip-hop? On FOX? This is gonna need some viewership, most definitely.

Well, the show got some help. Ratings are good, and have increased each week in its first month. Why is it working? Why do I love this show?

Soap opera is fun!

Hollywood Reporter has news of another anime series getting turned into a live-action film that being the iconic Japanese series Astro Boy.

You might remember that Hollywood already tried to make an Astro Boy movie in 2009 with disastrous results.

The animated film barely made $40M worldwide while costing $65M to make this of course doesn't include all the money spent to promote which would likely mean the film ended-up costing that studio at the very least $100M in losses.
