If you fly with any regularity you know that the romantic idea of air travel has died a horrible death (we're talking on the level of being eviscerated by Jeffrey Dahmer) but once upon a time it was filled with plenty of leg room, bathrooms where you didn't have to fold yourself into a ball in order to take a dump and food options that didn't end with a wrinkled bag of stale peanuts.

I know it's hard to imagine, but flying in a plane was an experience akin to traveling the skies inside the belly of a metal cloud God filled with luxurious comfort. So sit back and watch what going to visit Grandma was like back when everyone smoked and drank booze at ten in the morning.

 If only I could have been alive when the airlines didn't treat you like a leper.

Don’t let the title throw you off, I’m not saying you should play games less, or go outside to interact with people and enjoy the fresh air.

Nope, I’m saying that you should play your favourite games even more!  Or rather, their expansions. Back in the 90′s the only DLC (downloadable content) we could get hold of were patches for PC games to fix bugs or problems.

Nowadays there’s a whole market of expansive gaming, giving you new weapons, skins, extra levels, characters, and even more story.. but all for a price. You might think that this would be perfect for every gamer; you reach the end of your game, play through again to pick up any missing trophies/achievements and then you learn there’s more of the same coming your way in a month or so.

But no.

As stated, there’s a market for this stuff and the key aspect of the ‘market’ is to exploit gamers to make MONEY. No matter how good or bad the actual game in question is, the DLC is never guaranteed to be great.

But there are beacons of hope, DLC additions that are so mind-blowingly good that they deserve the extra purchase.

Admittedly, certain games are rereleased as ‘Game Of The Year’ editions with all of the DLC combined but I’ve decided to have a look at the fundamentally vital purchases that all self-respecting gamers should invest in.

Alright, here’s how this is going to work: this post is the first in a series where I will pick out the ten greatest cartoons from a given year and talk about why I think they work so well. Obviously this is just my opinion, but I’ll take historical and cultural significance into account as well as artistic merit, starting somewhat arbitrarily with the year 1930.

For context, Walt Disney’s groundbreaking Steamboat Willie - the first short to effectively synchronize animation to sound - was released two years earlier, and all of the major studios had followed its lead in producing sound cartoons. A handful of animated films were using color at this point (Ub Iwerks’ Fiddlesticks, Walter Lantz’s animated sequence in King of Jazz), but the first cartoon in full three-strip Technicolor, Disney’s Flowers and Trees, wouldn’t be released until 1932.

This list includes films from seminal studios like Disney and Max Fleischer, as well as cartoons from frequently overlooked studios like Charles Mintz and Van Beuren.

The film will be released in 3D.

I'm not into Pokemon but even I know that there's something weird about combining it with Reggae and then creating some kind of music video featuring the character Slowpoke (who, in all honesty I had to look up) starring at me in kind of a total freak way.

That is weird right? I mean this isn't something that just happens in the Pokemon universe is it? It's not like you're watching the cartoon while eating a bowl of cereal and all of a sudden this pink Bantha-like thing starts staring at you without saying anything until you start to feel uncomfortable or anything right?

I don't know, this things freaks me out...I'm never watching or playing or buying anything Pokemon...ever.

Class of 1984 is probably one of the best films about a music teacher fending off a gang of Punk Rock thugs ever created. Maybe that's because there hasn't been another film about a music teacher fending off a gang of Punk Rock thugs made, but still, it's pretty damn good.

Here's the plot:

Andrew Norris (Perry King) is a music teacher at a horrible L.A High School who wishes to instill the love of music in his students, unfortunately he is thwarted by a gang of ruthless punk rock assholes led by Peter Stegman (Timothy Van Patten) who, interestingly, is some kind of musical genius (he can play piano and since the bar is already pretty low at this school, he's like a prodigy or something). Norris thinks he can go all Jamie Escalante on the punks (to understand the reference, click HERE) but they are like "I'm a Punk Rocker good sir and so I bid you and your musical education adieu". Violence ensues soon after and teenagers die, which is weird since I was always told that music soothes the savage beast.

The movie also stars Roddy McDowall (Fright Night) and Michael J. Fox in one of his first roles ever.

I was 13-years-old when Superman died and only recently gotten into comics.

I mean, really gotten into comics.

Sure, I’d dabbled over the years with the hobby but it took some time to stick, and when it stuck, it really stuck.

I was firmly Marvel at the time, having been sucked in, like almost everyone who got into comics after the late 70s, via The X-Men. I was in the process of moving into Fantastic Four, The Avengers and the like, but hadn’t made the transition into Marvel’s esteemed competition from across town.

But when the national media storm around The Death of Superman hit, I knew it was inevitable that I was about to make the leap to DC.

In Macon, GA, the local news was talking about how the town’s comic shop, Comics Castle (may it rest in peace), was expecting huge crowds the day of Superman #75’s release, so I had big plans to be there early. This was not only going to be my jump into DC, but it was also going to be an event this young comic book fan was not going to miss out on.
