The SPONGEBOB SQUAREPANTS Theme Song Slowed Down 800%...Nothing Will Ever Feel Right Again

0

Here's a fun summer game to play with your kids: Set up a tent in the back yard, ply them with sugar and chocolate, tell them scary stories about a mass-murderer who is roaming their neighborhood and, as you zip up the tent for the night, lock it so they can't get out and then put on this horrifying version of the Spongebob Squarepants theme song while you listen to your children scream and claw their way out of a nylon tent.

Oh yeah, this game is for you, not them...I guess I didn't make that part clear.

Song after the break.

FILM GEEK: DE DUVA (The Dove)- An Ingmar Bergman Parody Starring Madeline Kahn

0

In 1968 A short film called De Duva (The Dove), began showing up in theaters paired with various Ingmar Bergman films. A darkly, dreary imitation of Bergman, the short shared many of the same themes and styles of the director, but it wasn't until various audience members began to realize that the "Swedish" language on screen was actually made-up that what they were were, in fact, watching was a parody of a genre that didn't lend itself to much comedy.

Written by Sidney Davis and directed by George Coe and Anthony Lover (and featuring Madeline Kahn in her very first film role), De Duva is one of those brilliantly funny, completely insane short films that showed just how powerful comedy could really be.

Short after the break.

FOG! Chats With WOLFCOP Writer/Director LOWELL DEAN

Wolfcop, released this past month on June 6, is a ghoulish, funny romp of a Canadian film. If you grew up loving 1980s horror films, then you’ll definitely want to see this slice of insta-nostalgia. A throwback to the old school days we all miss, Wolfcop is chock full of practical effects served with a twist of contemporary humor and wit.

I was able to chat with writer/director, Lowell Dean, about his experiences making Wolfcop.

The film itself is based around an alcoholic jerk, Lou Garou, who pukes only a few minutes into the film. I was genuinely interested to see how Dean turns this surly, unlikeable cop into a character who ultimately saves the day. I must say, there’s a little Walter White action here, where you end up rooting for him regardless of his broken moral compass.

If you haven’t seen Wolfcop yet, you should remedy that ASAP.

It’s clear that Dean is a genuine horror fan with a passion for making more of what we long for; humor, the macabre and boatloads of practical effects.

I Love BUCKY O'HARE, Or Can't a Grown Man Love An Anthropomorphic Rabbit From Outer Space?

Before the marketing campaign for Guardians of the Galaxy turned Rocket Raccoon into a household name, there was a little show called Bucky O’Hare and the Toad Menace.

It would be a lie to say that the first time I came across Bucky O’Hare and the Toad Menace I was instantly in love.

I mean, it looked like Star Wars and Flash Gordon, two things young Chris absolutely adored.

It had space ships.

And lasers.

That alone was enough to get my attention.

But the… people… piloting those space ships and firing those lasers were… anthropomorphic animals.

It was simultaneously the coolest and strangest damn things I found in long, long time (“long, long time,” of course, being relative to a child).

A Very Rude Rube Goldberg Machine

I have always been fascinated by the concept of the Rube Goldberg machine ever since my 7th grade science teacher explained cause and effect to a group of bored shitless thirteen year-olds by building an elaborate contraption that ran around the classroom made up of everyday bits and pieces of school ephemera.

It was one of the only times in my life that I could say I had been truly amazed.

Unfortunately, this particular Rube Goldberg machine isn't so much as awesome as is it an inventive way to sexually harass people (although, that too can be quite amazing if you happen to be kind of an asshole, which I am).

So take a look at the video after the break and start building your very own RUDE Goldberg machine...For mine, I'm trying to figure out the most effective way to end with an inanimate object cupping some guys' balls.

Why You Shouldn’t Be Too Concerned About Aereo

0

Last week’s Supreme Court ruling against Aereo has essentially put the company out of business.

Many people are claiming that this is a blow to innovation in the way in which “the cloud” can be used to distribute media.

It’s not.

Simply put, what Aereo did wasn’t all that special. And I say that as someone who cut the cord 3 years ago.

Putting the legal issues aside, let’s first look at the service Aereo offered: a DVR solution for over-the-air (OTA) transmissions.

Instead of having your own antenna, DVR and TV tuner, you rented this equipment from Aereo and accessed recorded content via the internet.

So what made the service novel was that you could rent the equipment instead of buying. As for recording OTA broadcasts, there’s nothing original about that.

There’s no shortage of hardware available for sale that will allow you to do exactly what Aereo did — record OTA broadcasts, record multiple shows at once, and replay them on any internet connected device, such as a Roku, computer, phone or tablet.

THE PRIVATE EYE #1-7 Gets a Turn on The Cosmic Treadmill

Brian K. Vaughan (Saga, Y: The Last Man, TV's Lost) and artist Marcos Martin (Amazing Spider-Man, Daredevil) have quietly disrupted the comic book industry with a small crack in the wall.

Beyond the innovative distribution method they have devised with a 'pay what you want' donation system at Panel Syndicate site, the story itself is revolutionary.

‏Within the tablet-friendly landscape format with a DRM-free file formats lies a future tale where nothing is private. The Internet doesn't exist. The 'cloud' has burst and everyone wears a mask. The cops of the future are The Fourth Estate - code word for the press.

You may not know about this sleeper hit, but if you wanted to, you can pay $0 to read it right now.

You'll quickly find justification for leaving a donation (or not, that's how they roll).

Some Geeky Stuff To Watch On Independence Day Weekend

0

Even before I wound up in the hospital this past week, I wasn't making any major July 4th plans.

Sure, cookouts are always good; hot dogs, hamburgers, and various other concoctions are never a bad thing.  But fireworks?  Don't get them.

Yeah, they're nice.  But I've seen them.  Setting off fireworks is always fun (but now that they're legal and sold everywhere, the attraction has diminished greatly), but watching them?  Really?  I just don't get it.

What I do get is air conditioning and more than a number of healthy hours in front of the television.  Not every marathon is for everyone, but there's plenty of goodness for everyone.  All weekend long!

THROWBACK THURSDAY (With A Twist): Trapper-Keeper Cases For Your Tablets

0
0

I don't know about you, but whenever the new school year approaches and the stores begin filling up with supplies for the young 'uns, I feel a mad pull of nostalgia for those very things that my mom never bought me (because they weren't on the school supply list) like: the big box of crayons with the sharpener on the back, cool pencil erasers shaped like cartoon characters or those huge, expensive Trapper-Keepers with all the extra pockets and plastic pencil cases.

God I used to love those.

And because Mead seems to understand that I'm not the only one on the planet who gets a down-low-tickle every time I think about school supplies from my youth, they have partnered up with Kensington to create a line of tablet cases that will take us back to those days when the height of technology was having 5 dividers in your binder.

Of course, if you are the type of person whose nostalgia drive is permanently on "Hard-to-Please" then perhaps the fact that there's going to be a Pee Chee case available will help crack that cool interior of yours:

Yeah, I could hear your squeals from here.

I suggest you pre-order now before all the cool kids' moms buy them up.

Get Funky With Prince Blackman's Reggae Disco Cover of 'Rapper's Delight"

If you are planning a 4th of July bash tomorrow but don't think you could stand listening to patriotic-themed songs like Lee Greenwood's God Bless the USA one more time, might I suggest going in a completely different direction musically by bringing up the funk.

Like, say a mix of Reggae Disco Tunes from the 70s featuring a plethora of danceable songs with a Caribbean flavor?

Sure, an album called Tropical Disco Hustle may not be the most 4th of July-ish kind of music, but it's perfect for grilling up veggies and fruit kebabs, downing glasses of rum and cokes and then lighting your house on fire with a bottle rocket.

It's just that festive.

So catch Prince Blackman's cover of The Sugarhill Gang's Rapper's Delight (called Rocker's Delight) after the break and then order the LP, you'll thank me.

Pop Culture Lessons From A Life Before Dog Ownership

0

It begins with a shock – a shock into fuzzy consciousness as I feel a tapping at my leg. Something's stirring, something's moving, something's happening.

I roll to the side of the bed in a room still cluttered and unfamiliar after moving into it just two nights ago.

The door opens into a hallway leading clear to the front door, and there she stands waiting for me.

I know what must happen next. My dog needs to go out before I have a stinky surprise in the living room.

Such is my life now. At age 33, I'm a dog owner for the first time.

Now I'm walking more than I have in several years of suburban town life. And like bikers giving a sign to each other as they rumble past on their motorcycles, now I see other dog owners and they want to chat.

Guess I'm in the club now. There's no turning back. I've picked up the poop.

"Yes, It's True. This Man Has No Dick*" – A Salute To WILLIAM ATHERTON

It’s always easy to celebrate the heroes our movies, TV shows and comics foist upon us. We like people who set themselves a part from the rest and show us a better way.

It’s even easy to celebrate the villains.

Who doesn’t like the fantasize about being Darth Vader standing on the bride of The Executor, or cooking up some meth out in the desert a la Walter White (just me?).

But do you know who doesn’t get their due in pop culture?

The dickhead.

Dickheads sit in that weird space between hero and villain. They’re not evil, per se and they’re very clearly not good either. As a kid, I learned very quickly that dickheads, though, were just as vital to genre storytelling as the heroes and the villains. Movies had them, TV shows had them and even cartoons like The Transformers had them (looking at you, Starscream)

However, when it comes to dickheads, there was always one actor who I knew, even at an early age, was the greatest of all, the alpha and the omega.

Of course, I’m talking about Mr. William Atherton.

*  (Well, that's what I heard)

THE IMAGE REVOLUTION (review)

0
0
review by Clay N Ferno

‏Twenty years ago, the comic book industry's top guns took their pen nibs, pouches, flowy capes and big eyes away from the Big Two and started Image Comics. Creator ownership and the comic book industry fundamentally changed that day when McFarlane, Larsen, Liefeld, Silvestri, Lee, Valentino, and Portacio took control of the business of comic books and the rights to their own characters.

‏Written and directed by Patrick Meany and produced by Seqart in association with Respect! Films, The Image Revolution interviews the guys, plus Sean Howe (Marvel Comics: The Untold Story), Image publisher Eric Stephenson, Robert Kirkman (The Walking Dead), Nick Spencer (Morning Glories) and many more to tell the tale of the early ‘rock star’ days of Image Comics and takes us through today. With the success of The Walking Dead and Image Comics dominating the creator owned market and business model, the impossible dream became real.

Double Feature Movie Show: MUSICIANS ARE BAD ACTORS!

I love movies.

I love music.

When those two worlds collide, I’m in some sort of state of bliss.

What does NOT bring me bliss is seeing some of my favorite artists trying their best to keep up with real actors or, in the case of these two movies, people who at least can act a bit.

I love these two movies.

They’re among the best rock movies ever made. But the musicians are such awful actors that…well, it certainly doesn’t ruin the movies.

It just makes them funnier.
