RUNAWAY: An Animated Short About A Man And His Beloved 1950's Refrigerator

$

A group of student animators from Ringling College of Art and Design (Susan Yung, Emily Buchanan and Esther Parobek...yay! Chicks!) have made an incredibly charming short film..."about a misunderstanding between a man named Stanley and his treasured 1950's refrigerator, named Chillie. Set in present day, a sad event sends Chillie into a whirlwind of emotional turmoil, and as a result, he runs away" [Vimeo].

Sweet, sappy and sort of romantic, you're gonna want to watch this over and over again and then track down these animators online and personally thank each of them for making your day a bit brighter (but keep in mind the stalking laws, let's not go overboard here).

Video after the break.

GEEKY CRAFT: Send the Kids Back To School In Style With the DIY Reusable Superhero Sandwich/Snack Bags

One of my friends had a conniption fit the other day when she realized that Pottery Barn Kids were out of stock on their reusable sandwich bags featuring Star Wars, Batman and Spider-Man characters...seriously, she called me up crying because she couldn't spend a butt load of money on cloth bags with her son's name embroidered on the front...I gotta get new friends.

When I asked her why didn't she just make her own, there was silence on the other end for a solid two minutes before telling me that I don't understand what it means to be a parent.

I guess I don't because I was able to whip up a small batch of these guys using a minimal amount of sewing skills and a how-to tutorial from Green Your Way in about an hour or so (I'm using them for my hubby's lunch when he heads back to teaching next week...screw my friend and her Pottery Barn-loving kid).

When I Think About You I Touch Myself: The COFFEE TABLE TOUCH SCREEN COMPUTER Will Totally Change the Way You View Your Japanese Anime Porn Apps

$

In the last decade technology has managed to change the way we live our lives in a profound and irreversible way. Hell, can any of us truly remember a time before the advent of the iPod (or any MP3 layer), smart phone or tablet that doesn't feel weird and dreamy and unreal?

Just the other day, I was talking to my mother on the phone, while looking up a recipe and answering an email ALL ON THE SAME DEVICE AT THE SAME TIME and it didn't even phase me. But had you told me that this was something that was going to be possible a mere twenty years ago, I would have thought you were fucking nuts and avoided any contact with you (I sort of identified with being a Luddite back then even though I was strangely predisposed to technology...odd).

But now, carrying around a device that can act as a phone/radio/mp3 player/camera/computer while allowing me to access the Internet any time that I choose, is such a part of my everyday life that if you took it away from me, I might very well curl up and die in a corner somewhere.

Which is probably why the idea of a smart coffee table complete with a 32" touch screen seems like a practical addition to a home already besieged by so much technology (remember people, we now have beds that can go from hard to soft at the push of a button). Of course, being able to download Japanese anime porn apps in order to view them more easily while you sip on a mug of tea is a still a bit exciting if you ask me.

BREAKING BAD: "Buried" S5E10 (review)

By Seth Levi
There's a great shot in the opening of the episode that pays homage to western movies.

After Walt leaves Hank's garage, the two men turn, and face each other in a stand off. They're framed at midlevel, with their hands by their side, fingers twitching, as they wait to draw.

Walt makes a break for his car, speeds away, but fails to get Skylar on the phone.

Hank beats him to that — he wins the draw.

In genuine good guy mode, Hank tries to rescue Skylar, but the plan is poorly though out. Offscreen, he tells her over the phone that he knows the truth about Walt, and they meet at a diner to discuss it. Hank doesn't know how to approach the situation. At the diner he gives her a faint waive, like they're two friends meeting for lunch, and then awkwardly hugs her.
The immediacy of the confrontation has shocked Skylar, pushing her away from accepting Hank's help, and his attempt to have her record a confession right then and there causes her to flee.

DEXTER: "Are We There Yet?" S8E8 (review)

“I’d give everything not to feel anything again.”

Tonight we were weaved through awkward scene after awkward scene until the ending unfolded some welcome twists.  Half way through the show, I paused the viewing to change some laundry.

In that time I reflected on the pointless dialogue and lack of intrigue of the episode so far. Deb is impulsive and tall, as usual, the sexual tension between Michael C. Hall and Yvonne Strahovski just isn’t quite there this season, Niki “sages” the office, Quinn and Jaime are doomed, etc.

No real meat. The pace was slow and the actors look tired of each other.

Leaving my laundry to tumble, my boyfriend and I contemplated the next half of the episode.

MUSIC VIDEO MONDAY: Camera Obscura- 'Break It To You Gently'

$

I don't know what it is, but whenever I see a video that gives life to normally inanimate objects (be they toys or shopping carts) I feel a great unease that all the junk that I have ever tossed away in the garbage bin are somehow suffering in a dump somewhere, horrified and depressed that I no longer love them.

To be honest, it kind of makes me feel like a murderer.

And yeah, the video for Break It To You Gently by Camera Obscura (off their album Desire Lines) does bring up those feelings, but at least there's a somewhat better outcome for the soul-inflicted shopping cart that stars in the video than the one that I tossed away a few years ago after I found mouse poop in it.

But of course, now that I know shopping carts have feelings, I'm probably going to be spending my entire day in a state of panic that I threw away a perfectly useful item that could have given me years of continued service had I not been so afraid of catching the Hantavirus.

I need a drink....video after the break.

Turn Anything You Eat Into A POP ROCK Surprise! Finally, A Way To Make Eating Vegetables More Appealing

$

0

Was there anything better in your childhood than opening up a bag of Pop Rocks, pouring them into your mouth and feeling the volcanic eruption of thousands of little molecules exploding against your cheeks?

Not in my point of view.

But since growing up, very little in the realm of culinary delight has felt as exhilarating in my mouth as those little bags of Pop Rocks that I used to down on a daily basis (yes, I know they are still available, but as I've grown older they have seemingly lost their charm...perhaps Pop Rocks are the food equivalent to the Make-Believe friend that we had as small children, the value of them lessens as we get older and get acquainted with real people- or beer, in the case of gastronomy).

But now, there's a way to add that POP! back into your life without worrying that you're regressing back to your toddler pull-up pants days: Molecule-R Popping Sugar, a product that allows you to dip your food into the crackling bursts of your youth that will feel just as miraculous as the cherry-flavored Pop Rocks did.

And yeah, it will probably be an interesting way to add vegetables back into your diet now that you can simply pour on some sugar made from carbon-dioxide and feel broccoli tingling inside your face hole.

Will this revolutionize the way people will eat?

Probably not, but at least it will be a fun way to sweeten up a bowl of healthy cereal while still looking as if we give a shit about fiber.

TRUE BLOOD: "Radioactive" S6E10 (review)

By Caitlyn Thompson
This season of True Blood was definitely better than the previous two, but the bar has been significantly low ever since the entry of Fairy Planes. Season 6 took us back to the beginning issues of the show: how humans cope with the existence of vampires. Alongside this story line, the creative team took steps to eliminate extraneous subplots and of course, added a few more.

At the end of this season, Terry is dead, Andy has a fairy daughter, Sam knocked up a random young-un and is the mayor of Bon Temps, Alcide and Sookie are a thing (of course she didn’t marry Warlow), Hep V vamps are being portrayed as a freaky Zombie-breed, and tragically, horrifyingly, the best part of True Blood caught flames, naked, while reading a book on a snowy mountain top.

The British Remake of THAT 70'S SHOW, 'Days Like These', Is No DOWNTON ABBEY...But It's Nice To Know That They Too Can Make Horrible Crap TV When They Want To

$

Back in 1999, British TV executives imported the American sitcom That 70's Show for the sole purpose of transporting their viewers back to a decade that seemed a bit more nostalgic once it was remade for a British audience.

They thought wrong.

In fact, Days Like These, was so hated by the viewers that it was cancelled after 10 of the 13 episodes aired (the other three were never seen and the entire series was buried).

Maybe the lack of success came about it because the feeling of the original show was uniquely American, or the fact that some of the cast of characters retained their American counterpart's name (Eric and Kitty Forman), while the rest of the cast names were either change entirely (Steven Hyde became Dylan Jones and Fez became Torbjorn Rasmussen) or simply had the last names changed to sound more British, but whatever it was, the show stank to high heaven.

But luckily, there's YouTube and now we Anglophiles have the privilege of seeing one of our original shows raped and murdered the way we did to the British shows: Coupling, Skins, Men Behaving Badly and The Inbetweeners.

It seems like a just punishment.

Watch 8 episodes of the series after the break.

Gentrification happens everywhere and in Sons of Anarchy Season 5, it happened in Charming leading to some explosive moments! However, not all towns that experience gentrification have the same experiences as Charming. Take a look at five well-known locations across the United States that have gone through a process of renewal and some of the most appealing factors of each location.

Brooklyn, New York

As the most populated borough in New York City, Brooklyn has a very unique and intriguing feel. The iconic Brooklyn Bridge is not the only attraction in Brooklyn that is a must-see. The Grand Army Plaza, for example, is a beautiful structure modeled after Paris’ famous Arc de Triomphe. Brooklyn is certainly packed full of cultural experiences as a home to the Brooklyn Museum, the Brooklyn Philharmonic, and the Brooklyn Academy of Music. One of the most charming aspects to Brooklyn is the Coney Island Mermaid Parade held every summer. Locals and visitors dress up and create their own floats, creating a vibrant and colorful scene that is sure to impress!

Austin, Texas

For those who are big fans of the live music scene, Austin, Texas is certainly the place to be! This large city always has something fun to do with food festivals, exhibits, and concerts going on all the time. One of the most well known festivals is SXSW film and music festival held in March. Even if you aren’t into the music scene, there is still tons of appeal to this Texas city. Austin provides tons of shopping. Locals love the boutiques found in the Second Street District and the never-ending shops at The Domain. Austin’s vineyards, nightlife, history, and golf courses also make it a very hip and happening city.

Charleston, South Carolina

Charleston, South Carolina is certainly an up-and-coming southern city. While this city continues to grow each year, it holds on tight to many of its old traditions. Along the battery, you can find many historical homes mixed in with newer construction. You can visit some of the long-standing structures such as the Magnolia Plantation or the Boone Hall Plantation or walk along Rainbow Row to see a strip of beautifully colored homes. In the center of downtown Charleston is the market which boasts tons of artistic goodies for it’s visitors. Throughout the year, Charleston offers many different festivals including a Spoleto Festival full of performing arts shows and experiences.

Oklahoma City, Oklahoma

The capital of Oklahoma has been growing vastly for years and has developed a very unique appeal. Oklahoma City is considered the Horse Show Capital and hosts multiple large-scale equine events each year. The stockyards district gives off the vibe of a true cowboy town with steak restaurants, cowboy shops, and large statues lining the streets. The western heritage of Oklahoma City provides a friendly atmosphere for visitors who may want to visit one of the cities’ many museums or historical landmarks such as the National Cowboy Museum or the American Indian Cultural Center and Museum.

Atlanta, Georgia

Atlanta, Georgia is full of tourist attractions such as The World of Coca-Cola and the gigantic Georgia Aquarium. But, there is much more to the city’s appeal than these well known tourism spots. The Atlanta Braves, Hawks, and Falcons teams have each created a huge fan-base in Georgia and provide entertainment for the locals throughout the year. If you’re looking to find out more about southern history, Atlanta is a fantastic place to start. This grand city is full of fun entertainment and there is always something fun to do!

The Pull List: INFINITY #1, BATMAN #23, SAGA #13 & More!

Check out what I checked out this week.

Whether the comics are inspiring or disappointing, I read them all.

Welcome to The Pull List.

And, as always...Spoilers ahead!

Infinity #1 (Pick of the Week)
Writer: Jonathan Hickman
Artist: Jim Cheung
Inkers: Mark Morales
Colorist: Justin Ponsor
Publisher: Marvel Comics
Price: $4.99

The first chapter of Marvel’s newest crossover event does an outstanding job at highlighting the dangers in store for not just Earth, but for the entire universe.

Jonathan Hickman is either hit or miss at times but he nails the bullseye in spades. This issue reads like an epic movie event that consumes your imagination to the nth degree. The tension’s slow burn keeps you on the edge of your seat for what’s to come.

Each subplot opens with a phrase, for example “What was hidden is now uncovered” that provides some cryptic insight for what is about to occur.

I tend not to like my comic books too wordy, but this was written in such a smart manner where it didn’t take away the experience one bit.  You will need to have been reading The Avengers and New Avengers titles in order to fully appreciate the gravity of the situation. Characters, who appeared in the first four issues of the Marvel NOW reboot, such as Ex Nihilo, his sister, Abyss, and Aleph return.

Their inclusion adds a level of depth to the story because they are all about recreating new worlds over the original, and now they find themselves working with the Avengers to stop the great threat that is caused by Thanos. The detail in Jim Cheung’s artwork, from character work to fight scenes, gives the book a dramatic and special feeling.

The $4.99 price tag is more than worth the price of admission. Just sit back, relax, and enjoy the show as Infinity brings the galactic noise.

Grade: A

The HIZAMAKURA LAP PILLOW Will Make Those Lonely Nights Without A Girlfriend Seem Easier To Get Through...Although It Won't Probably Won't Lessen Your Creepiness

$

0

I understand the need to fall asleep next to someone you love. There's a certain feeling of safeness and contentment about it and, when it's gone, it makes getting through the night pretty tough. But the human need for contact is strong and so we seek out comfort where we can find it, whether that is through hiring someone to be naked with us for a few hours, or investing our hard earned cash into a pillow shaped like a woman's lap.

Wait, what?

Yes, thanks to the brilliant pornographically-inspired minds of the Japanese, you can purchase your very own Lady Lap to snooze away on (and pick the color skirt too!).

Now, I'm not going to judge anyone who desires to snooze on the lower-half of a Polyurethane lady, because when you are that person, you are probably at a point in your life when the loneliness has so thoroughly taken hold of you that you are in need of some serious mental help.

So please, let me know what I can do to get you through this trying time...hell, I'll even spoon with you for a few hours just to keep you from making this purchase.

No seriously, put down your debit card. You're better than this.

I'm calling the doctors right now....stay with me!
