SADISTIC SCIENTIFIC STUDY Tortures Robotic Toys To See If Humans Empathize With Their Pain...Dammit, Now I'm Crying For A Robot..DAMN YOU SCIENCE!

Scientists at the University of Duisburg-Essen in Germany (why is it always Germany?) have created a study whereby they torture an adorable robotic dinosaur in order to determine whether or not humans can empathize with its pain.

And I can tell you unequivocally that yes, mutha fuckers, we do indeed.

Probably BECAUSE IT FRACKING SCREAMS AND MOANS, and most of us (not Germans apparently) have a heart.

So great, now I have protective feelings for a robot that will more than likely escape from the scientists and murder me.

I hate you University of Duisburg-Essen, I hate you so much.

BATES MOTEL: "Midnight" S1E10 (review)

By Apathy Babcock
I remember having a conversation with my mother in my early 20’s…

I don’t remember the topic, exactly, but I do remember telling her something that probably fell into the category of “inappropriate to tell your mother.”

When she asked me why I was discussing this with her (she couldn’t tell me not to do whatever it was I was horrifying her with since I was an adult), I told her I would never engage in anything I wouldn’t be okay telling my mother about.  I remember her blinking for a beat and sighing before saying, “I think it’s time for us to be less close.”

As children grow into adults, it’s hard to determine sometimes the boundaries that should be set between them and their parents.

This is a real problem for Norman with his seriously oversharing mother.

And the information bomb she drops on him in this episode is a real doozy.

When one thinks of trilogies, one cannot help but think of the original Star Wars trilogy.

I, for one, think of that defining moment of modern cinema as two movies and a book.

You see, I was 7 when The Empire Strikes Back was released. Too young to bring myself, I had to rely on my mother who -- as she told me years later in the theater before Episode 1 started -- HATED the original movie.

So, I never saw Empire in the theater. Instead, I devoured every variation of the movie that I could get my hands on. I read the novelization, the graphic novelization, the Mad, Cracked, and Crazy parodies, listened to the audio books.

If there was a braille release, I might have picked up a copy just to get a better impression of Cloud City.

So, I walked into The Hangover Part III and realized, "Well Goddammit, I never saw The Hangover Part II." It really was not the punch in the gut regret that I had about Empire for so many years. And as The Hangover Part III began, I realized that I was about to watch not the last of a trilogy, but a continuation of a concept.

I had walked into the 21st Century's Police Academy 3.

GOT SATAN? A Law Enforcement Guide to Identifying Satanists...Circa 1994 (Video)

During the early to mid nineties, while I was rolling on E and hugging everyone at Club Some in Houston, Texas, Satanists (and apparently homosexuals...they're the same thing according to our Satan Guide below) were out and about in parks leaving graffiti tags in order to talk with one another and generally causing havoc during their various rituals that all seem to be performed in open spaces near public park bathrooms.

The horror!

But thank Lucifer that someone was brave enough to keep local law enforcement informed about the Satanic rampage that was happening in our cities and towns via this educational video (that I presume played in every police department in the country).

It's brave individuals like Epic Mullet (oh, you'll see) who keep this country safe.

I Weep For Cobra

There were many crimes committed in G.I. Joe: Retaliation, despite the nice 3D.

And yes, while we all expected the movie to be stupid, I wanted at least more of the cartoon-fun that The Rise of Cobra was.

I ended up seeing Retaliation twice in one day last month because I first saw it with a friend, and then later that night I took the wife out spur-of-the-moment. It happens. So when I say I saw G.I. Joe: Retaliation, I saw the hell out of it, and its many crimes.

A half-baked plot that couldn't decide if it wants to be Roadblock's Revenge, or the Snake-Eyes Ninja Spectacular. Though the ninja fight in the mountains did provide the best action figure-y moment on film, at least until Pacific Rim comes out.

KIDS HAVE ALL THE POWER: A Father Re-Enacts Conversations He's Had With His Two Year-Old...Who Is Played By Another Grown Man

You Will Do Exactly What I Say...Understand?

In this web/short film series, filmmaker Matthew Clarke and David Milchard (who plays Clarke's daughter Coco) re-enact actual conversations that have transpired between the father and daughter that were, shall we say, fraught with psychological terror.

Don't get me wrong, Coco isn't a demon child or anything, but there's something that happens to a kid when they reach the age of two where they suddenly have the type of power that politicians running for office can only dream of harnessing.

It's fucking frightening.

I remember when my nephew was that age and asked me for a cookie and when I told him no, he folded his arms, stared directly into my eyes and said, quite clearly, "I think that I will have a cookie".

And you know what?

I handed him that cookie straight away.

I wasn't about to test that kind of power my friends.

Video after the break.

While the first few years of the 1950's were slowly leading up to making it the decade of sci-fi (and not just in movies, but in books and TV and comics as well), 1953 is the year it all broke open - wide open.

Several films that are considered by many (myself included) to be near the pinnacle of the genre - The War of the Worlds and Invaders From Mars highest among them - were released during this break through year of sci-fi movies.

The most famous of these sci-fi cinematic pinnacles is undoubtedly The War of the Worlds.

Making your valuable objects appealing to buyers on Craigslist can be a bit tricky. You have to be a wordsmith, a professional photographer and a savvy negotiator in order to make your used crap seem so important that someone would be willing to hand over cash in order to possess it.

But if you are none of those things, then by all means, post a naked picture of yourself with the object you are selling all pressed up against your greasy junk in order to entice a buyer in purchasing a $400 keyboard.

Brilliant.

Aw, Yeah Green Team!

DC Comics has resurrected the 1975 Joe Simon Green Team in The New 52 to compliment Gail Simone’s The Movement comic.

The best part?

It’s written by Art Baltazar and Franco—the famous cartoonists behind Tiny Titans, Superman Family Adventures and most recently Aw Yeah Comics.

Up until now, the guys of have been on an all ages initiative at DC, so it is exciting news to see them writing in The New 52.

The Green Team consists of Commodore, J.P. Huston, Cecilia Sunbeam, and young Mohammad. The kids don’t have super powers, can’t tell you where the Batcave is, and aren’t trying to save the world...yet.

They all meet up in the first issue at a pop up expo, POXPO ’13. Here, inventors try to gain angel funding for their latest and greatest machinations. Commodore (Nicknamed “64”—an excellent joke referencing the ‘80s computer) Murphy strolls around the expo determining who should get the funding. That is until he discovers Prince Mohammad is broadcasting the location with his Instagram app. This brings on the trouble and the bad guys looking to rob the youngsters, and steal the tech.

This is a very fun book, and it is great to see Art & Franco in The New 52, bringing their unique brand of humor and universal appeal. These are not known properties, so we can imagine some fun stuff coming down the pike, as the team works from a pretty clean slate.

These kids have a good heart, so let’s not condemn this 1% — I have a feeling they will use this funny money to help the world, not doom it.

It was dueling detectives this week folks! Shawn (James Roday) and his dad Henry (Corbin Bernsen) go mano-a-mano on the case of who killed Shelley Aaronson, a 48-year old millionaire.

Actually, Henry discovers Shelley’s body while he was bird watching one gray day.

Yes that’s right, Henry Spencer was bird watching with folks old enough to be his much older siblings.

Not something I would ever expect from the elder Spencer, however ever since his shooting, Henry’s been more about “Carpe Diem” and living “La Vida Loca” and less living by the rules.

CHINA BEACH: The Complete Series Is Now Available on DVD And You Should Definitely See It (Review)

$

It’s been almost 25 years since the television show China Beach was on the air (can it really be that long?) and in that time since, television has certainly not shied away from showing the Vietnam War in all its brutality. But China Beach was different, instead of showing the horrors of war through a soldier’s eyes, its focus was on the female point of view, those in the military and the few civilians who chose to work in conditions that were in no way “chick-friendly”.

And it wasn't something that mainstream America was completely ready for at the time of its airing back in the late 80's (judging by its poor ratings) even though the show managed to win Emmys, Golden Globes and a Peabody during its 4 year run.

The introduction to the China Beach starts with a pilot that feels like a series finale with Dana Delany’s First Lieutenant Colleen McMurphy finishing up her tour of duty as a nurse at the 510th Evac Hospital (known as the Five and Dime), which serves as a base for the R and R facility known as China Beach.

Get Lost in a Good Science Fiction Series: THE SPIN SERIES by Robert Charles Wilson

Good science fiction can sometimes be a hard thing to find.

You need to find a good story, something that will suck you in from the very first page and keep you going to the very end of the book, leaving you hoping for sequels.

You need a good writing style that keeps you engaged, with a fresh vocabulary.  Classic science fiction has come to be known for its lacking in fully-developed characters, so for good science fiction you’re going to want some well-rounded characters.

Good science fiction is a regular book that deserves to be shelved next to any other award-winning, bestselling work of regular fiction, and yet it involves elements, storylines and plot involving elements of the future and science.

Look no further than Robert Charles Wilson’s Spin trilogy.

HOW DO YOU MAKE BACON EVEN MORE AWESOME? Cover It In Chocolate With A Sprinkle of 23k Gold Dust

$

Bacon lovers, you might want to sit down for this announcement because you are about to shit your pants (and this time it's not going to be from partially cooked pork products).

The folks at the Baconery have just announced that they have managed to create a slice of bacon so ostentatious that even Diddy (and probably Kanye) would be jealous to watch you chew on it.

Made from Nueske's Cherrywood Bacon, Guittard Semi-Sweet Dark Chocolate, and, of course, 23k edible gold flakes, this back fat is guaranteed to give the middle finger to all of those people whom the economy has paralyzed and who cannot justify spending $40 on a pack of bacon...even if it does give those of us with a bank account of -$22.00 a chance to feel happy again, if only for one delicious moment.

Not that I have money troubles or anything...(sigh).

If you are interested in the chocolate-gold bacon click HERE to order it, or, if you happen to be in NYC you can visit the Baconery at: 911 Columbus Ave (between 104th St & 105th St).
