WTF FRIDAY: If You Were Friendless In This Life Don't Worry, With Rent-a-Mourner You Can Populate Your Send Off to the Netherworld With Hired Fans...That'll Show the World

$

Funerals are the last bastion of provable popularity (Not that you will care if no one shows up since you're dead and all), but for those who are left behind, they need hard proof that even though they liked you enough to show up to a pontificating truncated tale of your life (with just the good parts), they weren't alone in that friendship.

Maybe because if they were it would reflect poorly on them and then they would spend the rest of their lives wondering if knowing you somehow tainted them as well (yes, even at your funeral, it's all about someone else...sorry).

But there's no need to worry about putting asses in the seats now that a new UK business has popped up that promises to provide mourners (£45 per person for 2 hours of work, contact them for group rates) that will cry and wail with the best of them.

Hell, they will even brief the hired help about your life so they can mingle easily with those people who you actually knew you (they will even show up to the wake as well- for an additional £45 for two hours- and pretend they found your knock knock jokes hilarious).

Forces of Geek looks back at the career of a true living legend in the worlds of Hong Kong & Korean martial arts cinema, a man known around the world as ‘Casanova Wong’, nicknamed ‘The Human Tornado’ for his kicking ability during his time in the Korean military.

FREAK OUT YOUR FAMILY AND FRIENDS By Making A Batch of Scrambled Hard Boiled Eggs In the Shell...It's Like F*cking Magic

As breakfast food goes, scrambled eggs are pretty awesome, but unfortunately they aren't very portable and thus they are usually relegated to being made on your days off.

That is, until now. In the following video tutorial you will learn to make scrambled hard boiled eggs that will not only impress your friends and family, they will be fucking superior to any and all egg products ever (maybe...I don't know, taste is subjective).

It can also be a great little science experiment for the kiddos as well (gyration + heat = yummy goodness) and will give them something to do for show-and-tell and/or for the science fair.

Whatever the reason, try it out and enjoy the results.

Now, if we could only inject some bacon in there, it would be perfect...

Yes TMNT was an awesome comic and for those who were young when it came out, the cartoon has a certain nostalgia factor as well (let's just ignore the movies shall we?).

But what might have life been like for the four turtles had they simply been, well, turtles?

Maybe this parody can explain things (or, maybe it can't, what do I know?).

HANNIBAL: "Apéritif" S1E1 or Good Will - Hunting for a Hungry Serial Killer... (review)

$

By Steve Belgard
Apéritif:  A cocktail or other alcoholic beverage that is specifically served before a meal, or with a small appetizer. In the culinary arts, the purpose of an Apéritif is to stimulate or arouse the appetite.

This must be the Year of the Gein – Ed Gein to be exact.  If there's a Serial Killer Hall of Fame in Heaven or Hell - Gein takes the cake – or liver – or heart, whatever your taste may be.  You see, Gein was the inspiration for the Robert Bloch novel Psycho, which has recently been turned into the Bates Motel; and he was the inspiration for Thomas Harris' novels The Silence of the Lambs and Red Dragon, which have been turned into numerous movies.

The latest incarnation of the Lecter saga is NBC’s Hannibal, and like Bates Motel, it’s a prequel – only it’s not since it’s set in the present – so there.

Created by Bryan Fuller (Pushing Daisies, Heroes) and Executive Produced by Sara Colleton (Dexter), Hannibal focuses on the cat and mouse relationship between FBI criminal profiler Will Graham (Hugh Dancy – The Big C)  and Dr. Hannibal Lecter (Mads Mikkelsen – Casino Royale), a forensic psychiatrist and connoisseur of fine flesh cooking and dining.

Played differently than William Peterson’s portrayal in Manhunter, Dancy’s Will Graham is an FBI profiler with serious behavioral issues, plus he has Asperger’s Syndrome, which is part of the Autism Spectrum.  He’s a brilliant but flawed character, and sort of a combination of Ryan Hardy (The Following), Fox Murder (X-Files), Dr. Spencer Reid (Criminal Minds), Sherlock Holmes (Elementary), Dexter Morgan (Dexter) and Patrick Jane (The Mentalist).

But being compared to all these other characters isn’t a bad thing – they’re all compelling, and so is Dancy’s Graham.

CALVIN AND HOBBES: The Movie

If there was a chance that this fan-made trailer by Gritty Reboots could be turned into an actual feature with Bill Watterson's approval, I would not only sell my house to finance it, I would pimp out my husband on street corners to help defray the catering costs to feed the cast and crew (he could love you long time).

That's how much I love this sweet-ass re-imagining.

But alas, it will never come to fruition because Watterson has this thing about upholding the integrity of his intellectual property (like that could possibly be a real thing in this day and age) and will never allow it to be.

So I guess I will just put this trailer on a loop and use my imagination like Calvin to pretend it's a real flick.

Too bad.

Of course the ISIS team has to get there first but with no DSV vehicle of their own they have to rely on Cheryl's oft talked about but never seen brother Cecil Tunt (who makes his first appearance). The theme of this week's episode is the resurgence of old demons.

In other words, as the episode name plainly suggested, the Green Team deals with as bit of unfinished business.

Of course, the same name might have fit last week as well - with that whole assassination plot and looking for Sarah thing coming to ends - but this week we specifically see the re-emergence of the killer drug Vertigo and Ollie's best bud decides he can no longer handle the pressure of being the Arrow's secret best bud.

While the fad of "man-scaping" has reduced the male species into a clan of smooth pubescent boys, there are still some of us ladies who love the feel of a hairy chest rubbing against our bare skin as a reminder that what is about to transpire between us is not only consensual, it is also legal.

(and really, that legal thing is kind of important)

But if your chesticle area is bald like the nut-sack of an eleven year-old, don't worry. Just slip on this 70s Hairy Chest sweater made from 100% polyester and watch as it beefs up your manliness tenfold.

Previously on Game on Thrones: Jon Snow’s a double agent! Arya escaped Harrenhal with the help of her face-changing murder friend! Osha must protect Bran and Rickon! Ice zombies are scary! Sansa’s a moron! Theon is also a moron! Joffrey’s a jerkhead! WHERE ARE MY DRAGONS?! Let’s do this!

Now that’s more like it.

After last week’s somewhat slow start, the pacing of this week’s visit to Westeros was vastly improved.  One of the show’s great strengths is its sprawling cast of wonderful characters – and we meet several new faces this week – and when Game of Thrones is really cooking it has a scope unlike anything else on television.

M-I-C...SEE YA REAL SOON ANNETTE...K-E-Y..WHY? Because We'll Miss You: Disney Princess Annette Funicello Dies at 70

$

Annette Funicello passed away today at the age of 70 after a long battle with Multiple Sclerosis.

Funicello got her start as a cast member of The Mickey Mouse Club from 1955 to the show's end in 1958 where a great many male fans watched Annette's name get bigger and tighter across her chest as she grew from young girl to hot teen. After MMC ended, Funicello gained an even bigger audience after appearing in the Disney movies: The Shaggy Dog (with Fred MacMurray) and Babes in Toyland before heading over to American International Pictures and MGM to film a series of Beach themed movies (Beach Party, Muscle Beach Party, and Beach Blanket Bingo with Frankie Avalon as well as How to Stuff a Wild Bikini that continued her character of Dee Dee without Avalon).

Funicello continued acting for more than 30 years until her diagnosis of MS in 1987.

Her final film, interesting enough, was a kitschy reboot of her Beach Party movies called Back to the Beach that co-starred Frankie Avalon, Lori Laughlin and Connie Stevens (it also starred a whole bunch of musicians from Dick Dale to Stevie Ray Vaughn and included a particularly fabulous musical number featuring Funicello and the ska band Fishbone).

After the break are some of my favorite Annette Funicello moments:

THE ROLLING STONES: SOME GIRLS Live in Texas '78

Some Girls still stands today as one of The Rolling Stones last incredible album masterpieces.

While they certainly made some outstanding albums afterwards—Tattoo You and Undercover are both high points—there were none that would be so perfectly complete as Some Girls.

Released in 1978 and quickly becoming a #1 album, it is hailed as an across the board classic, and one of their all time best selling studio albums.

Recorded in '77 & early '78, the writing and sessions were done amidst a time of even more internal turmoil than usual for The Stones, with Keith Richards' looming Toronto drug bust a concern as to whether he could be imprisoned for years, and the challenge of responding to punk rock's ground zero take down of the dinosaurs of many of rock and roll's giants.

The original cover art (there was also another color variant cover) to the
Some Girls album, spoofing a wig ad is brilliant. The cover was quickly changed
when copyright issues came up regarding the various female celebrities depicted.

After some good-natured time stalking to shake down intel on his mysterious companion, Clara, the Doctor shows up at her house at the scheduled time agreed upon last episode.

He asks her where and what in time and space she’d like to check out.

The overwhelmed Clara suggests, “something awesome.”

That awesome place turns out to be the Rings of Akhaten. The Doctor has chosen the destination for the fantastic spectacle of a ceremony that occurs every thousand years.

Exiting the TARDIS, the pair wander around what looks like the set of a Star Wars knockoff—there is an eclectic group of rubber faced aliens wandering and haggling in a market. The Doctor and Clara try eating a blue jelly thing and encounter a butt ugly alien that barks like a dog.

MR. SELFRIDGE: S1/E3 (review)

By Christopher Cerasi
It’s a universal that no matter where in the world you are, the first thing you see when you walk into a department store, no matter what the size, are rows and rows of perfumes and colognes.

It’s so ubiquitous and expected that most of us don’t even pay attention to brands, bottles, or even scents, unless they are so divine you want to know the source or so pungent your nose wrinkles.

Those retail workers who assault us with the latest fragrance have been satirized in movies and TV, and at this point – fair or not – they have become caricatures.

But there was a time when all of the things we took for granted in our retail experiences today were fresh, innovative, and even controversial.

In terms of retail revolutions, Harry Selfridge seems to have led the way.

THE ROMANCE PANTS: Everything You Need to Set the Mood For Love Can Be Found Right Inside Your Jeans (DIY)

$

I have a sneaking belief that every dude on the planet secretly wishes he had one of those swinging James Bond love pads where, if you flipped a switch, everything that a man would need to woo a lady out of her panties would be set in motion.

Think about it, push a button and the lights would automatically dim, the fire would ignite itself in the fireplace, the turntable would immediately put the needle on the correct Barry White track and two glasses would rise from a faux coffee table already filled with bubbly.

What woman could possibly resist your pre-planned date rape charms?

Now I know you're asking yourself "But that's just one of those Hollywood creations right?"

Wrong.

Because Instructables user, Randolfo (with Team Instrucatables), has managed to sync pretty much everything I just mentioned to the zipper in his pants and, better yet, has given the public what it so desperately wants, fucking instructions on how to make them.

That's right, with patience and a little skill you too could be walking around in a pair of Romance Pants that will up your game and make you the Lothario you have so desperately wanted to become.

How does it work?

Watch the video after the break and afterward, click HERE to begin fashioning your own pair of pants that may land you a Ms (or Mr.) right.

The Pull LIst: MISS FURY #1, DETECTIVE COMICS #900, SUPERIOR SPIDER--MAN #7 & More!

Check out what I checked out this week.

Whether the comics are inspiring or disappointing, I read them all.

Welcome to The Pull List.

And, as always...Spoilers ahead!

Polarity #1 (Pick of the Week)
Writer: Max Bemis
Art: Jorge Coelho
Colors: Felipe Sobreiro
Letters: Steve Wands
Publisher: Boom! Studios
Price: $3.99

If I had the ability to fly and then lost that ability without knowing I had it in the first place, all while dealing with mental illness, there would probably be no amount of medication that could make me feel normal.

I would always feel that something was missing, and that search for normalcy would be infinite.

Tim Woods is a bipolar artist who feels that there is something missing. He feels his medication could be the problem, so he stops taking it and feels he is free. However, strange things start happening that he attributes to side effects from stopping his medication.

However, there is more than meets the eye to everything that that is transpiring.

Polarity is marvelously crafted from head to toe. It speaks to you in a way that most comics could only dream of achieving. Punk rocker Max Bemis created and wrote this story, and admittedly suffers from mental illness. Whether you are familiar with bipolar disorder or not, his script has you so captivated by everything going on in Tim’s life.

Jorge Coelho's art work presented a bohemian flare, and the coloring by Felipe Sobreiro is trippy and augments the pencil work as well as the story.  Buy it now. This is some Eisner Award winning quality stuff that you won’t want to miss. Oh, the book comes with a free song for download by Max Bemis.

Thanos Rising #1
Writer: Jason Aaron
Art: Simone Bianchi
Colors: Simone Peruzzi
Publisher: Marvel Comics
Price: $3.99

Thanos Rising is an origin story of how one of the most powerful villains of all time became so evil.

It’s a simple formula that has been used over and over again.

Thanos, who was born on Saturn’s moon, Titan, looks different from the other kids.

He mother wants him dead, his father has no time for him, and he feels like a social outcast. He's a timid child who doesn't want any trouble from his classmates and becomes physically ill at the idea of dissecting an animal in science class.

Again, this has been done before, but Jason Aaron adds little something that makes this more of a "poor me" type of story.

Young Thanos makes some social headway with his classmates. Then, enter the devilish girl who is fixated on our purple friend. Simone Biaanchi's character work shined most as facial expressions spoke more than any word balloon. Interest in Thanos has increased dramatically ever since he appeared in The Avengers post-credit scene.

Obviously, things are going to be a big deal in the months and years ahead and Marvel made the right call with this getting to know you miniseries.

Grade: A-

Detective Comics #19
Writer: John Layman & James Tyninon IV
Art: Jason Fabok & Andy Clarke
Colors: Jeromy Cox
Publisher: DC Comics
Price: $7.99

The cover may say issue #19 but this is really the celebratory 900th issue of Detective Comics.

The renumbering caused by the New 52 doesn't allow this to officially be the 900th release, but that won’t stop us geeks from calling it that anyway.

John Layman doesn’t let it stop him, as the main story called “The 900” speaks to a section of Gotham where hardworking and peaceful people reside.

Of course, we find out that no place in Gotham is really safe as a Man-Bat virus is released and spreads to the area’s inhabitants. There is a lot of Man-Bat in this book and while I find the character boring, it was the right call for this book.

Also, James Tyninon IV gives us a preview of what is in store for his ongoing Talon series as Bane and the Court of Owls are in the midst of a conflict. If that combo doesn't send chills down your spine, then Bane might as well put you over his knee.

There was also the set up of several plot points that suggest this is going to be the main Batman book for current events once Scott Snyder’s Batman hits Zero Year this summer.

Grade: B+
